Local kids to get visit from Celebrity Barnardos Beach Bolt Ambassadors

Local kids from the Barnardos Learning Centre inWaterloo are in for a treat this Thursday 14 May when some very special visitors will be paying them a visit.

Celebrity Ambassadors for theBarnardos Beach Bolt,Nova 969 Breakfast NewsreaderMatt de Groot, local Maroubra resident and IronwomanTara Coleman and Coogee Cougars founder Jo Davison will visit the centre, along with local sponsors, Tina Du Faur from Titan Fitness and staff from Coogee Bay Hotel.

The VIP visitors will get to see Barnardos’ vital work first-hand and bring along some much needed supplies to donate to the centre including new books, homework and craft supplies along with food vouchers and canned goods. They will also be treated to a special performance from the kids themselves!

Barnardos Australia provides support for local families in need via after-school care for primary school children from Kindergarten to Year 6. Barnardos Learning Centrestaff nurture and encourage the children’s educational goals through guided reading and homework support, art, music and cultural activities and the children are given a hot, healthy meal after being collected from local schools and transported to the centre each afternoon. Children in the program are also taught life skills such as hygiene and nutrition and the importance of good behaviour and caring for others.

All runners taking part in the Barnardos Beach Bolt on Sunday 14 June at Coogee Beach are encouraged to be sponsored by their family and friends in order to reach our goal of raising $50kto continueBarnardos vital work.

About The Barnardos Beach Bolt

The Barnardos Beach Boltis a new community 1 mile running event taking place on Sunday 14 June, 2015 on Coogee Beach. The race starts at 9.00am at Grant Reserve, the Southern End of Coogee beach, and will see participants test themselves on the soft sand as they make their way along the beach towards Dunningham Reserve at the north end. It’s there where they will be further challenged by the uphill stairs before their sprint to the finish line. Sure to be a fun-filled family day there will be a BBQ, face painting and former Australian Idol contestant Paulini will open the event.

The event caters for all members of the community with races for all ages and fitness levels with:the Elite Race, the ‘000 Race’, which will bring together our Emergency Services in a battle to be the best, the General Race, a walk or run for all age groups above 8 years and The ‘Mini Bolt’ – a shorter race especially for kids under 8 years of age.
