This school community provides a chaplaincy program endorsed by the school’s Principal and the Parents and Citizens Association. The chaplain is involved in a range of activities which happen at this school which are free of religious, spiritual and/or ethical content. These activities are available to all students on a voluntary basis unless a parent or guardian requests in writing that this is not to occur for their child/ren.
Chaplains may also be involved in activities with religious, spiritual and/or ethical content and additional consent is sought from parent/guardians for these specific activities.
Information about the school’s chaplaincy program is on the school’s website. Prior to commencement of any additional activities with religious, spiritual and/or ethical content in the school, parent/guardians will be advised through the school newsletter and website.

Dear Parents
As school chaplain I am privileged to work with all the children at our school. My role is flexible and I work with the teachers and students in many ways. Below are models of chaplaincy service. This may give you some indication of how I work within the school environment. My role usually combines the Pastoral care model of listening to students if they are finding it difficult to cope with life, a mentoring model and helping out in the class room. As I am also a teacher aide here at school I am available every day at school for the students to come and talk to. I try to provide a listening ear and a caring presence for kids in crisis and those who just need a friend. I also provide support for staff and parents in the school community. Please feel free to come and see me and talk to me.
My qualifications are Diploma Community Services Community Worker (Qld TAFE) and my Diploma of Youth Training (YMIS) with SU Qld.
Models of Chaplaincy Services
Models of chaplaincy services provide a description of the types of programs and how they operate as part of chaplaincy services delivered at a school. These models are to be sensitive to and considerate of total range of cultural, spiritual and religious backgrounds and other belief systems represented in school community.
The Models of Chaplaincy Services that can be adopted by state schools may be one or a combination of:
The Pastoral Care Model - providing an additional dimension to school's care, guidance and support of students with spiritual, religious and/or ethical needs.
The Mentoring Model - acting as a role model for students and assisting in development of supportive relationships for, with and among students.
The Education Support Model - upon invitation supporting the teacher in the classroom.
School Chaplains support students in one of the most high pressure environments: the schoolyard. Chappies provide a safe and supportive influence to students.
SU Qld Chaplains provide spiritual and emotional support to school communities. They are in the prevention and support business: helping students find a better way to deal with issues ranging from family breakdown and loneliness to drug abuse, depression and suicide.
