Reflections from yesterday…

·We changed “in” to “on”… Mr. Chuy was able to provide the proof why it should be changed.

·Mr. Devone said our conversations went well and that we were able to share ideas and disagree in a safe environment

·Mr. Coban had a 7-slide presentation. Mission statements, can be direct or VERY long. Not the direction we need to go in, but we can get ideas from it.

With vision statements, in corporate America, they are very short, schools can be lengthy. We need to decide how to find the balance between corporate and school. He suggested small break out groups and that it could be a volunteered group, not just a pick a number group.

Mission Statement 2015-2016:

We see our students as young scholars and future leaders. We expect that every student will grow into lifelong learners, critical thinkers, and effective communicators through community engagement, rigorous academics, and character development.

Through stakeholder collaboration- students, families, teachers, and the greater Orange community- we will promote academic events and extracurricular activities, community workshops, health clinics, and mentoring programs to meet the intellectual, emotional, and social needs of all students.

Through a relevant curriculum, integrating technology, and performing arts we will ensure our students become college and career-ready problem-solvers for the twenty-first century.

The school community will maintain a high standard of respect, pride, courtesy, and safety. We are proud to educate our students of today: “Leave your mark” as leaders of tomorrow.

***Rosa, Oakwood, Heywood and Park will get to split grant for $549, 888 a year for 5 years, for grades 4-7. After school, 3 hours 5 day a week end at 6 pm, Saturday piece (Valley Arts)

Think about what this program will look like… We want something different than what it normally looks like. Maybe a STEM piece, NJIT, Robotics,

Discussion for Thursday! Blended learning? Doesn’t replace SRAE for K-3

Goal 1 ELA- Big Picture

Improving reading levels- Some road blocks that may cause this are: computer usage in class and home, staff needing PD on Guided reading, relevant reading at home, (Parents felt that the reading at home was “sketchy”. We need to clearer on what the purpose of the reading is for)

Goal 2 Math- Big Picture

Goal centered around the tier 2 and tier 3 students and putting in place strategies

10 hours of PD- who is giving? what is it on?

Monitoring/implementation

Response to intervention (K-4 45 mins of intervention)

Met with Ed Elements… for blended learning. Our budget was $80,000, we need $125,000 for this. Where is the funding coming from?

Goal 4 Data-Big Picture

EOC1- diagnosis of at risk students… how was can diagnosis, what weights can be assigned to the risks,

Teachers will need guidance for below reading level students. 2 grades below level at risk.

3 out of 4 or 4 out of 4 are considered at risk (2 out of 4 is on a watch list)

chronic absenteeism-

behavior-

poor academic performance-

Low reading level-

School Level Goals:

We need interim goals for our school that are similar to what we do on a regular basis and that can impact our lofty goals.

  • Attendance- Protocols in place for student attendance and tardies
  • Student Performance (under SiP goals)
  • Family Involvement
  • Instruction (under SiP goals)
  • Family Advocacy
  • Discipline/Climate and Culture/PBSIS

Example:

MP1- By the end of the first marking period, RPCS will decrease the amounts of tardies by 5% in stakeholders (how can we find the information, what does it look like, how can we make sure we meet this goal, once we achieve the goal, where do we go next)

MP2

MP3

MP4

Word on crafting our school level goal on Attendance. Developed SMART year long goal, which outlined several protocols and guidelines for addressing chronic absenteeism and tardiness.

Changes to be made to handbooks to reflect some procedures and protocols that were developed during this session.

August 20, 2015

Reflections from yesterday:

  • great job coming up with protocols for tardiness and absences
  • the amount of collaboration was great and the suggestions
  • Easily can get on tangents and JC did a good job got us back on track
  • Impressed that JC admitted she made a mistake last year and that this year we can correct that
  • For the last 2 years we have had someone had attendance for an SGO, but now this is more attainable because there are protocols

Do we want to another goal? Passed around a HUGE stack of papers of the children that failed for the year at RPCS.

After the experience of yesterday, we need to come up with a BIG goal for failures.

Needs assessment:

  • Gap of where we are and where we need to be. What our failure rate SHOULD be… 0%

During the 2015-2016 school year, 100% RPCS students should be proficient in all subject areas.

*We need to be REALLY clear on what we are doing and reporting out before we spend the time doing the work.

Murphy will finalize the Handbooks sent by Tuesday 8/25

Scott- School Level Goal in format for teachers by Tuesday 8/25
