PURPOSE:

This course is being offered to update experienced ACLSInstructors.

INTENDED AUDIENCE:

Experienced ACLS instructorswishing to renew their instructor status.

FACULTY:

JEFF MESSEROLE, EMT-PS is the Clinical Instructor at Spencer hospital and is an ACLS/PALS/BLS Regional faculty.

OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to:

  1. DEMONSTRATE
  1. Proficiency in using the videos and lesson maps in the instructor manuals
  2. Use of the testing materials to conduct skills testing.
  1. EXIT CRITERIA
  1. Instruct a group on the Megacode team concept.
  2. Successfully evaluate another student running a Megacode while correctly using the skills testing checklist.
  3. Successfully remediate another student.
  4. Attend the entire session.

CEU’S:

NURSES: 0.45 CEU’s will be awarded by IBON approved provider #14 - Spencer Hospital.

EMT’s: CEH’s will be issued through CECBEMS

Participants must attend the entire program

to receive continuing education credit.

This program has been planned and implemented in accordance with 655 IAC, chapter 5, through Spencer Hospital, Iowa Board of Nursing approved provider #14

The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS, ACLS, and PALS and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the American Heart Association. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course material, do not represent income to the Association

REGISTRATION:

Participants must pre-register one week prior to class. Spencer Hospital employees register via Healthstream. Non employees register by calling 264-6142, or send registration form to Human Resource Development department. Pre-course reading/preparation is mandatory for this course, no drop-in registration is permitted.

FEES:

No registration fee for employees of Spencer Hospital with HRD approval to attend. For nonemployees & Spencer Hospital employees without HRD approval to attend, $145 (fee includes Instructor Manual). Fee does not include an optional text: Handbook of Emergency Cardio-vascular Care (2015 Edition) which can be purchased for $28

CANCELLATION:

A full refund (minus a $50 handling fee) is given if cancellation notice is received less than one week prior to class. No refund if less than 24 hours notice is given.

Spencer Hospital reserves the right to cancel this program if there is insufficient enrollment (course minimum is 4). In this event, every attempt will be made to notify enrollees prior to the event.

PREREQUISITES:

  • Taught four ACLS courses in the lasttwo years
  • Have a current ACLS instructor card
  • Have an affiliation with an AHA approved Training Center
