DreamweaverCC Instructions for SWIC Server
Begin by defining your web site in Dreamweaver. After clicking Site, enter the Site Name. Then locate the Local Site Folder. *Note you need to follow your folder structure on the web server - do not use the exact as below.
Next click “Servers”. Then click “Add new Server icon +” as shown in the figure below
You are now ready to enter your data into the following page. Enter the FTP address, userid, root directory and web address of the server. You need to put in the root directory on the server: semester14/cis176-in1 or semester/cis176-001 depending on which class you are in. Again CHECK your file structure to see your folders. Be sure to click Test before leaving this screen to test your connection to the remote site:
When you click the Test button, you should get the following message. You can then click OK
Click “Save” when you get the following screen:
Click Save a second time on the next screen:
You should get this message. Click OK à and then Done
Click Done on the next screen:
Make sure the Files tab is visible. Then “Expand” to show remote site [the SWIC server]. This icon is the last icon in the row above the word “Type”
Verify that you are “plugged” into the SWIC server [the remote site]
Create a new folder:.[Either Click Fileà New Folder or Right-click fall13 Folder & select New Folder]
Name the New folder with a meaningful name, such as striped_umbrella7
You must Re-Define your web site to include this new folder
Redefine Your Site to include the path to this newly created folder
[Site à Manage Sites à Edit.
Select your server [SWIC server below]
Click the pencil icon to edit [see below]
Under the Root Directory, change it to read: fall14/cis176-in1/striped_umbrella7
[this is to include the folder you just created]; then Click “Test”
After clicking Test, you should get this message; click OK
Click Save à Save à Done
The site cache will be recreated to include this folder
And now to move the files to the server…….
You are ready to “put” your web site on the right “up to the server” on the left. Before proceeding, make sure that root folder on the left is selected and that the root directory on the left is selected. You are now ready to click the PUT arrow at the top of the window to UPLOAD your web site.

Then your expanded web site should look similar to the window below. You have to click and expand the folder name section so that you can see the “entire” name. Notice that the folder striped_umbrella6 is now included in the path on the left
You are ready to “put” your web site on the right “up to the server” on the left. Before proceeding, make sure that root folder on the left is selected and that the root directory on the left is selected. You are now ready to click the PUT arrow at the top of the window to UPLOAD your web site.
This box appears; click “OK” to put the entire site on the server
Uploading may take several minutes. After uploading is complete, your files & folders will appear in both panels, Local Files & Remote Site
Use http to view your web site on the SWIC server.
