We are currently seeking a Human Resources Generalistto join our team. This position will report to the Human Resources Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities of the position:

Performs Human Resources related duties at the professional level and may carry out responsibilities in some or all of the following functional areas: recruiting, benefits, workers compensation, personnel policies and procedures, training, and company event coordination. This position will provide leadership in various committees and in coordination of company community involvement efforts. In addition, this position may provide administrative support to the President and management team. All functions, duties and responsibilities are to be carried out in an honest, ethical and professional manner and to be performed in conformance with applicable company policies and procedures.

Benefits Function: Administers health and welfare plans including enrollments and terminations and communicates with service providers concerning routine administration of programs. Processes required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record keeping and proper deductions. Provides notification of COBRA/MN Continuation events to TPA. Manages annual open enrollment period during 4th quarter of each year. Arranges for distribution of materials from providers, assists with communicating changes to employees and arranges for on-site representation by providers. May conduct employee presentations. Provides counseling and assists in resolving employee complaints related to health and welfare plans. Acts as a liaison with various insurance providers and fosters effective relationships with client representatives. Refers difficult or very complex complaints to manager as needed.

Processes monthly billings from insurance providers. Reviews billings for accuracy. Prepares/updates monthly reports and reconciles to billing to ensure accuracy. Resolves discrepancies with providers, payroll and the company. Prepares and distributes a variety of benefits communications to employees as required. Conducts Benefits Orientations for new employees to ensure employees gain an understanding of all benefit plans. Counsels employees on plan provisions so that individuals can make informed benefit decisions. Prepare and administer all leave of absence requests and disability paperwork. Effectively interpret FMLA & ADA implications as they relate to leave of absence/disabilities. Assist corporate office with benefit plan audits, 5500 preparation by organizing, preparing and submitting required data within established timelines. Respond to census data requests as required.

Health and Safety: Provides administrative support for health and wellness initiatives in the company. In collaboration with the Health Educator, coordinates annual on-site health screens, and flu shot clinics. Serves on the Wellness Committee. Works closely with the Health Educator to assist in the development, promotion and implementation of wellness programming for employees. Complies with any/all company safety and health rules and policies and promotes safe work practices. Report any safety concerns to a supervisor/manager.

General Human Resources Function: Administers various human resources plans and procedures for all company personnel; assists in development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures. Participates in developing department goals, objectives, and systems. Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the department and the company. Prepares and/or maintains personnel files in compliance with applicable legal requirements. Maintains a variety of employee records (i.e. personnel records, medical records, FMLA records, training records, etc.) accurately and in accordance with Human Resources department file maintenance policy. Maintains Employee Guide with updated resolutions and other pertinent information, as needed.

Produces and maintains company Organizational Chart. Partners with employees and management to communicate various Human Resources policies, procedures, laws, standards and government regulations. Uses a variety of methods for communicating information company-wide including bulletin boards, intranet, e-mail, and lunchroom TV. Conducts New Employee Orientation to include assembly of packets, I9 verification, review of company policies/procedures, employee guide, etc. Takes photos for employee board. Responsible for the organization, coordination of company sponsored activities and events such as luncheons, recognition events, annual holiday event, etc. Prepares birthday and service anniversary cards, communications, and distributes to employees’ supervisors. Coordinates recognition program to include the selection/timely delivery of gifts/awards. Create and maintain a work instruction manual for the position.

Recruitment: Assists with recruitment effort, internal and external, for all non-exempt and exempt personnel and temporary employees including development and distribution of internal postings, writing and placement of advertisements. Reviews applications; conducts telephone screens, interviews. Performs telephone and written reference checks. Coordinate any pre-employment testing and/or drug testing.

Workers Compensation: Assists supervisors/managers in completion of injury reports, as needed. Conducts injury report investigations as directed by the HR Manager. Following regulation guidelines, reports ‘recordable’ injuries to the insurance carrier.

Training: Assists with organization and coordination of company training programs for clerical, supervisory, technical, plant, and middle management personnel. Responsible for ensuring Lunch N Learns are provided on a regular basis (at a minimum, quarterly), to include topic selection, presenter solicitation, announcement, sign-up, and assisting in conducting programs where needed. Tracks New Employee Training Checklists to ensure they are received in HR in compliance with established due dates.

Office Administration: Leads and participates in coordination of employee events, committees and schedules. Adheres to budget constraints. Maintains and coordinates employee recognition programs. Supports continual compliance with ISO9001 standards and procedures. Complies with any/all company safety and health rules and policies and promotes safe work practices. Report any safety concerns to a supervisor/manager.

Experience and Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Bachelors Degree in HR or related field preferred.

Minimum 3 years job-related experience, preferably in a Human Resources department.

Experience in a manufacturing environment a plus.

Proficiency in using Microsoft Office software.

Knowledge of Human Resources principles and practices.

Ability to establish effective working relationships, use sound judgment, initiative & resourcefulness when dealing with others.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and guidance.

Excellent written, oral communication, and listening skills.

Excellent planning, organizational, project coordination skills with attention to detail.
