Dear Parents,
We are planning a field trip to Tybee Island and historic Savannah!! The fifth grade teachers are thrilled to be able to offer such a wonderful opportunity to our students. The trip will include a variety of “hands on” activities and projects in the areas of science, social studies, language arts, math, reading, physical education, health, and art at the Burton 4-H Center on Tybee Island.
Our trip is scheduled for Wednesday. May 17- Friday, May 19, 2017.
The cost for the trip will be $260.00. This will cover all expenses including the cost of food, lodging, and transportation while at the Tybee Island 4-H Center. We will be traveling by charter bus. Some activities we’ll be doing include beach and marsh ecology, squid dissection, Discovery Dolphin cruise, surf sleuth, and more! After leaving the Burton 4H Center we will head to Savannah for a trolley tour through historic Savannah followed by a Chick-fil-A lunch on River Street before heading home.
The fee will be broken down into three payments. The first payment of $65.00will be due Wednesday, August 31, 2016. The second payment of $62.00 will be due Wednesday, October 5, 2016. The third payment of $65.00 will be due by Wednesday, November 9, 2016. The fourth and final payment of $65.00 is due no later than Wednesday, January 25, 2017. Reminder letters will be sent home prior to each due date. Information will be sent home at a later date regarding a possible fundraiser to offset the cost of the trip.
We will need a few parent chaperones. The cost for chaperones is $220.00. We hope to accommodate any parents who wish to attend. However, since space is limited, we will reserve a spot for you only after you are paid in full. At this time, we will only be taking 5 parent chaperones per class. Only parents and legal guardians of our fifth graders are allowed to participate as chaperones. No siblings are permitted to attend.
Chaperones will need to provide their own transportation. All chaperones will sign a responsibility sheet agreeing to follow all duties assigned to them prior to the trip. There will be a required chaperone meeting in April 2017.
Henry County Schools requires ALL chaperones to have a background check done prior to the trip. There is no cost for this. Forms will be sent home with your child once you have secured your spot.
After December 15, 2016, absolutely no refunds will be given.
**Behavior and attendance play an important role in fifth grade. Should there be any ongoing behavior and / or attendance issues, (i.e. excessive absences or tardies), the classroom teacher and/or the administration will contact you regarding the possible loss of the privilege to attend the trip.**
Check out the Burton 4-H center at www.burton4h.org. Then click on the Environmental Education site to view activities the students may participate in.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us.
