AHOUSE RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR CLEMSON UNIVERSITY CHAMPION GOLFER DOC REDMANFOR HIS OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE WORLD OF GOLF AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM ON CAPTURING THE 2017UNITED STATES AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, Clemson sophomore Doc Redman, a native of Raleigh, North Carolina, has proven himself a rising star in the American golfing firmament. In a recent triumph, the mathematical sciences major won the final three holes with an eagle and two birdies, defeating University of Texas senior Doug Ghim in thirtyseven holes and winning the 117th United States Amateur Championship, held at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California; and
Whereas, Doc Redman joins Chris Patton to form an exclusive twomember association made up of the only Clemson golfers to win the United States Amateur. After the conclusion of the 2017 U.S. Amateur match, Doc Redman was announced as one of the ten members of the 2017 United States Walker Cup team that competed against a team from Great Britain and Ireland in Los Angelesand won. The first Clemson golfer to make the Walker Cup team since 2007, this Firstteam Freshman AllAmerican (20162017) also was named Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Year for the 20162017 season. Further, he led Clemson in stroke average (70.77) after posting eight topten finishes; and
Whereas, not one to neglect his studies, Doc was named Academic AllAtlantic Coast Conference for the 20162017 season; and
Whereas, the first freshman to win two tournaments in the same year, never mind in the fall, Doc set countless Clemson records, including tying the mark for the low round with a 63 at the Jackrabbit in his second career event and fourth career round; and
Whereas, in addition, he finished the Ka’anapali Classic with a 198, the record 54hole score by three shots and the record for a freshman by nine strokes. He was Clemson’s highestranked player by Golfstat and Sagarin and was number 31in the final Golfweek ranking. He is presently number 28 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking; and
Whereas, the House takes great pleasure in commending Doc Redman on his impressive career in golf, and the members look forward to hearing of his further accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution,recognize and honor Clemson University champion golfer Doc Redman for his outstanding achievements in the world of golf and congratulate him on capturing the 2017 United States Amateur Championship.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Doc Redman.
