Class Description:In this course, you will study the history of Texas, from the geography through Texas in the 21st Century. . Because I want you to be successful, the policies below will be in effect. I’m looking forward to a successful year with you!

Units of Study:
- Geography/Native Americans/Exploration: the effects of geography on the development of Texas with an emphasis on the regions of Texas, their characteristics, and how it affects immigration. Explorers from Europe and the first Spanish settlers are studied along with Spanish influences on Texas lifestyles.
- Struggle for Independence: events leading to Texas Independence. The first part of the unit concerns the colonization era and relations between Anglo settlers and Mexico.
- Republic to Reconstruction: the unit focuses on the Republic of Texas, War with Mexico, Civil War, and Reconstruction and the human response to conflict and change.
- Growth and Development: this unit will help students understand the events connected with the social, political, and economic growth of Texas in the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. It begins with the study of the cattle industry and concludes with contemporary issues.
- Students have up to five (5) school days from the date a test is returned to take advantage of reteaching activities and complete a retest.
- Please make sure to talk to me as soon as you decide to retest to ensure your reteaching activities are complete before the retest deadline.
- See your counselor about grade repair if you fail a quarter.

- Notecards and construction paper as needed
- A calendar or planner
- Daily: accepted 1 day late = maximum 85
- Major grades other than tests:
- 1 day late = 15 pt. deduction
- 2 days late = 25 pt. deduction
- 3 days late = 35 pt. deduction
Grading Policy:
- Minor Grades 40%
- Major Grades 60%
80% - 89% = B
70% - 79% = C
69% or lower = F Conduct: E, S, N, P, U
/ Tutoring:
At least oneTexas history teacher will be available mornings at 8:30, except when their attendance is required at meetings or duty.
Conference Period: 5th Period from 1:56-2:43
