  • Are there any problems with vehicles blocking access routes?

Electrical
  • Are electrical appliances in good order eg. no damaged plugs or casings, snags in leads?
  • Are extension leads used properly eg. fully uncoiled, not overloaded?
  • Are Visual Inspections carried out?
  • Have appliances been PAT Tested?
  • Is a Test / Inspect label attached to all appliances? Are they in date?
  • Are there personal items of electrical equipment eg. radios?

Environment
  • Is the temperature, lighting and ventilation comfortable / suitable?
  • Are extra heaters, fans and desk lights available if required?
  • Is there excessive, noise, dust or fumes?

Fire
  • Are suitable fire extinguishers available?
  • Have these been tested in the last year?
  • Are Fire Action Notices displayed?
  • Do these detail the Assembly Point?

First Aid
  • Are there First Aid Posters detailing First Aid arrangements?
  • Is there a First Aid box? Are the contents in order?
  • Is an eyewash available (if required)?

Housekeeping and Storage
  • Are doors and walkways clear and free from obstructions, tripping hazards etc?
  • Shelving / loading at high level.
  • Is the floor clear of cables / leads?
  • Are items stored appropriately and safely?
  • Are areas generally clean and tidy?
  • Is the building in good repair eg. floors, steps, stairs, windows etc?
  • Is office furniture in good repair?
  • Are service covers in place?

Hygiene and Welfare
  • Are toilets, kitchens and rest areas clean?
  • Are fridges, microwaves, water machines and kettles clean?
  • Are cleaning products available to keep such items and the kitchen clean eg. washing up liquid, cloths?
  • Are hand wash facilities, soap and a means to dry hands available?
  • Is drinking water available?

Out of Hours Working
  • Is there a log book to record out of hours working?
  • Has this been completed?

Waste Disposal
  • Are there sufficient bins?
  • Are recycling bins available?
  • Are bins emptied regularly?
  • Is information available on how to dispose of sharps eg. glass, needles?
  • Are there ‘wheelie bins’ nearby?

Work Equipment
  • Does equipment which could injure someone have guarding eg. shredder, guillotine, laminator?
  • Are high risk equipment maintained to manufacturer’s guidelines?
