2017SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
In an effort to offer year-round services to students around the County, Collin County Teen Court will host a series of week-long summer internships for students who are interested in learning more about county government and the criminal justice system. Students may be involved in any or all of the following: jury selection, observing trials, observing Commissioners Court, touring detention facilities, visiting the DA’s and sheriff’s office, as well as other county events.
The session will last two weeks in the summer and will be available to up to fivestudents. To be eligible, students must meet all of the following criteria:
- Have completed their freshman year in high school by June 30, 2017;
- Have access to transportation to McKinney;
- Have no criminal convictions and consent to a background check;
- Have parental consent to participate in the internship; and
- Be able to attend the entire internship period.
Once a student qualifies for the program, there is an application process by which participants will be selected. The application process is designed to give students practice for applying to colleges or for a job. As such, interviews may be conducted to aid in the selection of participants. Only FIVE applicants will be selected.
Once the application is submitted and completed, prospective interns will be interviewed before final selections are made. It is important that the application process is followed exactly.
Internships will be held on the following weeks:

School Faculty Recommendation
With your application, please submit a recommendation from a member of the faculty at the school at which you attend, or if you are home schooled, from someone with a professional relationship with you. The recommendation should include relevant information to this internship (dependability, demonstrated interest in government, etc.), and not just “feel good” language. The letter should be signed and attached to the back of your application.

Participants in this program will have rare access to county offices and facilities which are otherwise secured or off limits to general members of the public. Participants may also come in contact with sensitive or confidential information. As such, it is necessary that all applicants have no criminal history. In order to participate in Collin County Teen Court Summer Internship Program, applicants and their parent/guardian must consent to having the applicant’s criminal history examined, including juvenile criminal history, which might otherwise be shielded from inspection.
