Brady Street Bridge Wins Two Design Awards
(Milwaukee, WI) – The Milwaukee County Park System is the proud recipient of two design awards presented for the Brady Street Bridge. The first award, a 2006 Bridge Design Award of Excellence, came from the Portland Cement Association (PCA). The Wisconsin Park & Recreation Association (WPRA) presented the second award that was judged on six topics: innovation, functionalism, community benefits, environmental stewardship and maintenance.
The 2006 Bridge Design Award of Excellence from the PCA will be presented in Denver, Colorado on November 5 at the opening session of the Fall Convention.
The 2006 Park Section Design Award of Excellence from the WPRA will be presented at the Fall Conference on November 8.
The Brady Street Bridge, that spans Lincoln Memorial Drive, is a major access point to the Lakefront by persons living in downtown neighborhoods. It also serves people using the Milwaukee County Park System’s Oak Leaf Recreational Trail portion that extends north of the lakefront along the Milwaukee River to the northern Milwaukee County suburbs. The bridge plays an important role for the movement of pedestrian traffic to the lakefront.
“These awards are especially important to us as they are a reflection of the emphasis we have placed on re-vitalizing our beaches,” said Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker.
The Brady Street Bridge was constructed to accommodate people with physical disabilities. The bridge also allows easy access to the Oak Leaf Trail for bicyclists and in-line skaters. For more information contact Jeff Baudry at (414) 257-4575.
