A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in honor and loving memory of our beloved friend and former colleague, Representative E. Porter Hatcher, Jr.
With deepest respect and sincere admiration, we pause in silent reverence and pay homage to the Gentleman from Jefferson 43.
WHEREAS, Representative E. Porter Hatcher, Jr., born September 9, 1936, to the Reverend Porter Hatcher, Sr. and Mauziva (Stone) Hatcher, developed his passion for public service through his upbringing in West Louisville; and
WHEREAS, Representative Hatcher attended Louisville Central High School and furthered his education at the University of Louisville; and
WHEREAS, Representative Hatcher enjoyed a long career as an insurance agent and real estate broker and was active in many civic and business organizations such as the Better Business Bureau, National Federation of Independent Business, Professional Insurance Agents, Urban League, and the NAACP; and
WHEREAS, Representative Hatcher compiled a record of public service, representing the 12th Ward of Louisville as Alderman for a decade; and
WHEREAS, Representative Hatcher served the General Assembly and represented the 43rd Legislative District in the House of Representatives from 1987-1999, utilizing his considerable charm and concern for all Kentuckians to provide effective leadership; and
WHEREAS, Representative Hatcher also served the Lord as Deacon for Lampton Baptist Church and as a member of St. Stephen Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, Representative Hatcher had several passions in life including horseback riding, tennis, running marathons, hunting, and playing bridge; and
WHEREAS, on December 26, 2012, Representative Hatcher, beloved husband, father, and grandfather left this corporeal existence and was called home to be with the Lord. He leaves behind his devoted and cherished wife of 45 years, Rosa L. Hatcher; two daughters, Rochelle H. Mobley (Morris) and Ramona H. Gray (Gerald); four grandchildren, Gerien, Gerald Jr., Tennyson, and Tyson; and two sisters, Patricia E. Adams (JE) and Rose Marie H. Stanley;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:
âSection 1. The members of the House of Representatives, both individually and collectively, express their most profound and sincere condolences upon the passing of Representative E. Porter Hatcher, Jr. to his family, friends, and community.
âSection 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving memory of Representative E. Porter Hatcher, Jr., the Gentleman from Jefferson 43.
âSection 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Representative Darryl T. Owens for delivery to the family.
