General information about the Bilateral Associate Expert Programme (BBE)
The aim of Sida’s Bilateral Associate Expert Programme is to contribute to Swedish resource base development. This is a training programme aimed at younger individuals who wish to work within international development cooperation. Bilateral associate experts are to be located within operational areas where there is an anticipated future need for qualified Swedish personnel.
General background:
Innovations Against Poverty (IAP) challenges the private sector to develop products, services and business models that can contribute to fight poverty and climate change. IAP is a specialised fund developed to identify and support innovative Inclusive Business (IB) ideas that deliver both commercial benefits for the private sector and developmental benefits for low income people, in both rural and urban areas, while advancing the inclusion and economic empowerment of women and youth. IAP is funded by Sida and managed by SNV Netherlands Development Organisation in partnership with Inclusive Business Sweden and BoP Innovation Center.
The program is designed for companies which are based, or operate in Cambodia, Ethiopia, Uganda and Zambia and are active in the following target sectors: agriculture and food, Energy, Water, Hygiene and Sanitation (WASH), and ICT. The program coordination office is in Cambodia.
IAP is seeking for a young professional interested to gain professional experience in the inclusive business, innovation and fund management fields by being part of an international team implementing IAP Fund.
Duties
· Support the development of practical innovation advisory training material and advisory tools
· Support local IB Officers in delivering innovation advisory services.
· Develop case studies, and assessment portfolio reports on additionality, innovation, climate change, poverty, IB and innovation ecosystems, value for money, amongst others.
· Support monitoring, documenting, learning and evaluation activities
· Support in economic, social and gender research and analysis
· Supporting the set-up and implementation of each round of call for proposals.
· Support the team in preparation and assessment of the company´s risks, both operationally and organizationally. Support the team in assessing and processing reports and funding requests from companies.
· Any other duties that may be assigned by IAP’s Executive Manager
Qualification Requirements (theoretical and practical)
a) Education background
· Academic degree in economics, business, industrial engineering, innovation, international commerce, international development, or related fields such as Public or Business Administration, or in the fields of environment and climate change
· Degree in areas related to innovation, international development, MBA (Preferable)
b) Practical experience
· At least two years of relevant working experience
· Practical experience in product design and development and/or business model design
· Experience working in one or more of these IAP sectors: Agriculture and food, Energy, WASH.
· Experience working with or familiarity with at least one of the following tools and approaches: human centred design, rapid prototyping, behavioural science to accomplish innovation breakthroughs, ethnography and the business model canvas.
c) Other requirements
· Interest in private sector development, sustainable development and inequality
· Good communicative abilities
· Ability to interact, establish and maintain productive partnerships with clients with sensitivity and respect for diversity
· Tact and negotiating skills, good judgement and decision-making skills
· Ability to work independently and in a team
· Understanding of diverse institutional cultures and the specific needs and conditions of low-income residents
· High degree of initiative, flexibility, reliability and discretion
· Willingness to travel to other provinces and the countries part of IAP
Language Requirements
Excellent command of English and Swedish.
Special regulations for the BBE-position
· Maximum age of 32 years at the date of application
· Swedish citizenship or a permanent residence permit in Sweden.
· Maximum of one year working experience from developing countries or countries of Central and Eastern Europe
· Driving licence
