It's that time of year again when we start to think about the special volunteers in the PTSA organization who have gone above and beyond all year long! There are a number of awards that are given each year including The Abigail ChapmanNorthrupVolunteer of the YearAward, The Carey Mougis Advocacy Award plus Special Recognition Awards.
Please take the time to nominate individuals who have dedicated their time and effort to thePTSAand to our children and schools. These awardswill be presented at the PTSAEnd-of-Year Dinner on Friday, June 2nd 2017at the Mead House! Read below for award submission forms and descriptions.
The Abigail ChapmanNorthrupVolunteer of the YearAward
As always, the"Abby Award"will go to a parent volunteer. As a founding member of the Dobbs FerryPTSA, Abigail Chapman Northrop was a warm and loving human being who absolutely personified the best attributes of aPTSAvolunteer. Abby was compassionate enough to "parent beyond her own", giving to ALL the children of Dobbs Ferry with her time, energy and commitment to their future. Each spring, theAbigail Chapman Northrop Volunteer of the Year Awardhonors Abby’s spirit and her memory by recognizing the outstanding volunteers to the Dobbs FerryPTSA who have followed in her footsteps.
- To be eligible for the Abby, the nominee must:
- Be a member of the PTSA
- Volunteer through the PTSA
- Volunteer above and beyond the scope of their PTSA position
- Exhibit leadership qualities
- The nominee must exhibit those qualities for which Abby Northrop was known:

Carey Mougis Award
The Carey Mougis Award will go to a community volunteer that always strives to advocate for children in our community. This award is named after an active volunteer who ardently believed in the potential of all children despite their abilities or circumstances. Her core philosophy embraced the belief that all children deserve to be educated in a caring nurturing environment. She was an advocate for the Dobbs Ferry School District model of inclusion and truly carried out the PTSA slogan: “One Voice, Every Child”
The Carey Mougis Award honors her spirit and her memory by recognizing those individuals who have followed in her footsteps.
- To be eligible for the Carey Mougis Award, the nominee must:
- Be an advocate for students in the Dobbs Ferry community.
- The nominee must exhibit those qualities for which Carey Mougis was known:

Special Recognition Awards
TheSpecial Recognition Awardsare designed to honor those special individuals who have worked diligently on behalf of the PTSA. Recognition Awardsare given in all of the following categories:
- Parent
- Teacher/Staff
- Student
- Administrator
The PTSA Special Recognition Awards are designed to honor those individuals who have worked beyond the scope of their PTSA or school position to enhance PTSA programs and initiatives. Nominees could be teachers, staff, administrators, parents or Board of Education Members.
Nominees should exhibit the following traits:
- Is a member of the PTSA
- Initiative in creating and/or developing PTSA programs
- Gives generously of his/her time
- Works hard on PTSA projects/committees
- Promotes PTSA goals/objectives
