CharterSchoolActivity Fee Payment Agreement

(Complete one form per family)

The state of Arizona allows public schools like Hermosa to assess a fee for enrolled students to participate in extracurricular activities. Parents who pay this fee will receive a dollar for dollar credit when filing their Arizona taxes. This means that the “fee” for one child does not actually cost anything! The activity fee is $400 per student if filing married and $200 per student if filing single. The payment of your activity fee helps Hermosa pay for services and programs that are underfunded due to unprecedented budget cuts. Without the extracurricular funds we simply cannot afford these programs. For more financial information go to Hermosa’s web site, click ParentCenter, Financial Data. Your activity fee pays for your student(s) participation in the following programs which enrich Hermosa’s curriculum:

  • Art program
  • Music program
  • Choir program
  • Cooperative sports and games
  • Character education

In addition, some communities may also participate in these activities:

  • Nature study
  • Tutorials
  • Gardening
  • Music performances
  • Swimming
  • ROPES course
  • Artist in Residence program
  • Field trips
  • Electives

This fee is due July 30, as programs start at the beginning of the school year. If you cannot pay your fee due to financial hardship, you may qualify for the Hardship Policy exception, which eliminates your fee, and ensures your student’s participation. Determination of qualification is guided by Federal guidelines. Please help us plan our budget, and work with us as we plan the classes and activities students enjoy by completing the following information. For more information regarding public school fees please refer to Hermosa’s web site, click on Giving, and Tax Credit for Caring, and this Wall Street Journal article: Public Schools Charge Kids for Basics, Frills
