Application or Method Paper?

Please assign your paper to one of the following categories:

An application paper describes an interesting business or industrial application of simulation that is substantially different from previous work. This differentiation needs to be highlighted in the paper and supported by literature references, e.g. of other applications or used methods. An application paper should focus on the way simulation is applied, on the gathered results and the important conclusions as well as on the contribution of the application to economic success, where appropriate.

A method paper describes a new methodology, a new solution, or the transfer of existing approaches to new applications. The state of the art has to be described summarizing relevant existing approaches. The difference to these approaches must be pointed out and supported by literature references. The focus of the paper is a comprehensible description of the new solution. The applicability of the work should be illustrated, ideally using a real-world use case.

Proposed Contentof the Paper

Please attach the proposed content (exposé) on a separate sheet, naming the corresponding author and the proposed title again.

Please consider the following informaton:

An exposé presents the outline of a planned full paper. It contains the addressed problem and puts it in a context of related scientific or practical work, while also defining its distinguishing novel features. The exposé should give a short and concise summary of the new contribution and its results to be described in detail in the planned paper.

An exposé contains approx. 1000 words and, if necessary, one or two figures. It should comprise the following information, on which the review process is based:

  • Motivation, problem description and relationship to simulation
  • For application papers: Short characterisation of the field of application and how the work is differentiated from previous approaches (specific to the company or industry) in that field.
  • For method papers: Short scientific differentiation and discussion of the novel aspects with respect to previous work by the author(s) or others. Presentation of (potential) use cases.
  • Comprehensible explanation of the approach as well as research or project results, which will be presented in detail in the planned paper.
  • Indication of the structure of the planned paper.
  • Literature references, particularly of work of other authors.
