Dance is an active class where each day builds on the previous day’s work. It is very important that you be in everyclass to pass this course!
Dress Code
Dance is a physical activity but it is also a fine art where body mechanics and structure are important. Injuries can occur if one’s posture cannot be easily seen during technique classes.
You will have 5 minutes to change at the beginning and another 5 minutes to change at the end of class. You are required to change since I'm sure your neighbours in your next class will appreciate it. It is unsanitary to sit all day in the same clothes you have worked out in.
Ballet technique classes require a black leotard or tighter top (no belly tops) and black or light pink tights, black leggings, ballet slippers or cotton socks. Males may wear dark shorts, white or all black t - shirts, an athletic supporter and black ballet slippers or cotton socks.
(tighter t-shirts are acceptable over leotard)
Modern technique classes require black leotards or tighter top and footless tights or leggings
Boys can wear shorts or dance pants and a white t-shirt with no advertising. You must dance bare foot for modern. No socks!!!
Jazz technique classes require dancewear, which is freer: black leotards, tights or tops and baggy pants or shorts. Running shoes, cotton socks and/or jazz shoes are appropriate for Jazz.
General:
All hair must be tied back in a ponytail, bun or headband for shorter hair.
All jewelry must be removed.
No gum or food will be allowed during any physical activity or in class.
No outdoor shoes are to be worn on the studio.
The dress code is all black with no advertising or labels on the t shirts and tops. These items will be needed for costumes so all black shoes and clothes are necessary.
These requirements are a matter of safety for your body and for the safety of others. They are apart of a long tradition in dance and should be respected.
There are several shows throughout the year. You may be required to perform in these performances as part of your presentation mark.
