Policies and Procedures

- Each child must visit with his/her parent(s) before beginning school to ensure that the parent and child feel comfortable with the school and teachers.

- We agree to a two week trial period, during which time either the family or the school can end the child’s enrollment with no penalties to either side.

- Please provide your child with a complete change of clothes (including socks) to be left at school, preferably in a ziplock bag, with the name clearly marked on the bag so that it can be found in a hurry. Backpacks should not be brought to school.

- No form of corporal punishment is ever used, nor are children ridiculed for misbehavior. When reminders and redirection fail, the child is offered the choice of participating with the group (“doing the right thing”, depending on the circumstance) or taking a quiet seat until they are ready. If these practices don’t work, parents are contacted to help develop strategies to enable the child to be successful at school.

- At the start of school, families contribute a list of school supplies

- Families may contribute healthy snacks for the class on a casual basis.

- Water is our beverage of choice at snacktime. Kids serve themselves from the water cooler, and have their own labeled cups.

- We consider enrollments without regard to race, religion, sex, nationality, color, creed, physical or mental disability or any other protected status.

- Parents are invited and welcome to visit at any time. Parents are encouraged to volunteer as classroom helpers.

- We do not teach any particular religious doctrine. We do teach the values of love, respect, responsibility, and acceptance.

- Personal toys should be left at home or in the car.

- Kids should wear clothing that can get dirty. We use different types of art materials, and always aim for paints, etc. to be machine washable, but it sometimes happens that a material surprises us (like glitter glue or marigold petals) and doesn’t wash out as well as we’d like.

- Parents supply a wash cloth for drying hands with the child’s name on it for their personal use. It remains in school and is washed once a week.

-Children should wear shoes that they are able to take off and put on by themselves. We will remind you if you forget!

- Kids always wear either socks or slippers on their feet in class. If your child arrives in sandals, please also send along socks or slippers for her to put on. Slippers can be left at school.

- Little Sprouts follows the same school schedule as the Bremerton school district, with the exception of the “non-student days” when the schools do staff development. Ms. Jo goes to the Washington Association for the Education of Young Children (WAEYC) annual training conference in October.

- In November and June, student led conferences are held. This is an opportunity for the children to show their parents what they have been doing in school, and for the parents to note their progress over time. This is a very special event for the students, and arrangements should be made to leave siblings at home so your child can have your full attention.

- Eight monthly field trips are scheduled. We are grateful for the support of parent drivers and

chaperones to make these trips possible. A trip would have to be cancelled if we didn’t have the parent support in a particular month, but happily this has never happened.

- To protect the health of everyone, very ill children may not attend, including those with fever, diarrhea, or vomiting. If you are unsure if your child is well enough to attend, please call to discuss it in advance. Quiet areas are available for kids who become ill during school and need to rest while waiting for parent or guardian to arrive.

- Children must be picked up on time. This is especially important for the morning class, as there is only a short time between classes for the teachers to clean up, eat lunch and prepare for the next class. If lateness becomes a problem, a fee will be charged.

- Children and siblings are welcome to continue to play in the play yard after class with parent’s supervision.

- Parent gives permission for child to play on and use all equipment and to participate in all activities at Little Sprouts. This includes field trips as scheduled for which you will sign trip specific permission slips.

- Photos taken of children while at school or on field trips may be used on Sprouts web site, brochure, flyers and similar materials, unless parents advise us differently on this registration form.

-A registration fee of $25 helps defray each student's start up costs.

- Half a month's tuition plus the registration fee hold your child's place until the start of school in September. The balance is due at Orientation. For the remaining 9 months, tuition is due on the first day your child attends each month.
