BECOME AN HONORS AMBASSADOR!

WHO ARE HONORS AMBASSADORS?

Honors Ambassadors are Honors College students who have decided to take that extra step in becoming part of the Honors College team by recruiting and welcoming first-year students into UIC and the Honors College. Working through the Honors College from Spring 2014 through Spring 2015, Honors Ambassadors are instrumental in recruiting and retaining high-caliber students at UIC and the Honors College.

WHAT DO HONORS AMBASSADORS DO?

In addition to recruiting and relating to prospective students, as mentioned above, each Honors Ambassador will have the opportunity to gain leadership skills. You will serve as a mentor for incoming students and help them be successful in the Honors College and at UIC during their first year. This mentorship begins in person when these students arrive on campus for their summer orientation. Additionally, Honors Ambassadors are instrumental in the coordination of Honors Experiences and will also assist with special events for the Honors College such as freshman interviews, summer Orientation days, the HON 101 Orientation course, or guiding prospective students and their families around the campus.

WHY DO STUDENTS BECOME HONORS AMBASSADORS?

Honors Ambassadors receive one semester of Honors Activity (HON 222) credit for their work (Spring 2014). Leadership gained from this program can serve as a catalyst for future endeavors, and the interaction with UIC faculty, staff and administrators can be invaluable. Experience through this leadership hones personal and professional skills that are quickly visible and invaluable to future employers. Bonding with first-year students improves the campus life for both Honors Ambassadors and new students. Honors Ambassadors will have the opportunity to not only mentor the freshmen, but to be able to participate in events that will help the prospective students and incoming freshmen to find their place in the Honors College and the University. All in all, Honors Ambassadors are helping raise the bar for Honors College students and increasing the reputation of the College.
