Join your fellow science educators at the 45th NCSTA PDI on Nov. 12-13 at the Benton Convention Center in Winston-Salem. Gather valuable information from our variety of sessions and exhibits that you can take back to your classrooms. Enjoy the networking opportunities that are a part of our yearly gathering.
In conjunction with our 'traditional' PDI, we are offering a 2 day workshop especially designed to show K-6 classroom teachers the best practices for strengthening literacy skills through the use of STEM activities. Our workshop presenters will exhibit strategies that will be immediately transferable to the classroom. All workshop presenters are asked to make their complete presentations available to teachers.

THE 2015 NC SCIENCE TEACHERS ASSOCIATION PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE WILL THE OFFER THE OPPORTUNITY TO PRESENT A POSTER SESSION

For the first time, the North Carolina Science Teachers Association (NCSTA) Professional Development Institute (PDI) is offering the opportunity for graduate students and faculty at schools, universities, and community colleges to present a poster session on their science, science education, or science classroom research. The poster session will be on Friday, November 13 at 12:30 p.m.

The theme this year is Mastering Literacy through STEM. It will be held November 12-13 in Winston-Salem at the Benton Convention Center.

Any graduate student, faulty member, or teacher is eligible to submit application to present via an abstract for a poster session.

Please note the following guidelines.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUBMISSION OF AN ABSTRACT

The abstract should be a succinct paragraph that includes the research topic (not the title) and questions, participants, methods, results, analysis, and conclusions. This summary should be single spaced and not exceed 250 words. Above the abstract is the title, name of the author(s), and name of the university or school.

Please include a 40 word description of the abstract and a title no longer than15 words for the program.

Abstracts will be linked to the website. They will not be included in the program. Any submission not adhering to the word limits will not be approved.

REGISTRATION FOR

NCSTA’S PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT INSTITUE

IS REQUIRED FOR ALL POSTER PARTICIPANTS

All poster participants, graduate students and faculty, who wish to present their research poster at the NCSTA PDI must be a registered participant. If multiple graduate students and/or faculty are part of the poster presentation, all presenters must be a registered participant. Please do so at:

POSTER SESSION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Posters must be the standard 36” x 48” presentation tri-fold board OR flat board furnished by the presenter.
  2. Presenters are expected to stand by their poster for the full session of the poster presentation and be prepared to respond to questions by interested participants. A summary paper should be available to institute participants.
  3. Only poster tables will be furnished by NCSTA. Participants using the flat board poster will need to bring their own easel stand.
  4. Presenters will be assigned a specific table or space within the poster session area.
  5. Presenters are expected to bring their own means of adhering their information to the board, i.e., thumb tacks.
  6. The title should be across the top of the poster in large letters (i.e., 60 point font) that makes it easy to read.
  7. Underneath the title, place the name(s) of presenters, faculty mentor, and the school or institution.
  8. Text should be large enough to be read easily by those who pass by the poster (i.e., 24 point font or larger). Use bullets whenever possible to reduce the number of words needed.
  9. Post only relevant points that provide a summary of the research that are concise and easily read. Remember participants typically read left to right.
  10. The use of color, diagrams, graphics, pictures, etc. will tell the story with a minimum of text and catch participants’ attention.

Do you know someone who would be a great leader? Become an NCSTA board member! Or just nominate someone else. Elections for several positions on the NCSTA board including president-elect and district directors are held each fall.
