DO WE NEED A NEW GOSPEL FOR A NEW AGE?
I. INT.
A. We are living in a changing world
1. Some of these changes are good and some are not
B. Some have suggested that the world of tomorrow will be
completely different from the world of today
C. Some have suggested that the Gospel needs to be changed to
fit modern man
1. Do we need something other than God’s word for our
direction today?
2. Do we need to modernize the Gospel for modern man?
a. Absolutely not!
E. Essentially things are the same now as they have always been
II. MAN IS THE SAME BEING AS HE HAS EVER BEEN
A. PHYSICAL THE SAME-FLESH, BONES AND BLOOD
B. NATURE THE SAME-SOME HONEST AND SOME ARE NOT
1. Some today like the Pharisees to whom Jesus preached love the
praise of men more than the glory of God
1. We still have many like Ahab & Jezebel, Judas and Pilate
2. We still have some like Abraham and Rebekah,etc
III. THE WORLD IS THE SAME AS OLD
A. IT HAS CHANGED NO MORE THAN MAN
1. In it is the same pomp,lust and allurements
2. We still need to be warned-I Jn. 2:15-17
B. JESUS WAS MET WITH TEMPTATION AS EVE
1. GEN. 3:6 speaks of the temptation of Eve
a. Lust of the flesh-“saw good for food”
b. Lust of the eyes-“pleasant to the eyes”
c. Pride of life-“make one wise”
d. She yielded and sinned
2. Jesus was tempted the same way in Matt. 4:
a. But He overcame
C. SATAN CONTINUES TO SEDUCE MAN THROUGH THESE
THREE AVENUES, THUS THE WARNING-I JN. 2:15-
IV. THE PROBLEM OF SIN, SAME AS IN THE BEGINNING
A. SAME CAUSE PRODUCES THE SAME EFFECT-RM. 6:23
B. WE HAVE NO NEW SINS TODAY
1. The sins of Gal. 5:19-21 are not new-Man continues to:
2. The sins of I Cor. 6:9-10 are still the same
3. Rev. 21:8 is still true
4. 2 Jn. 9 is still true
5. As then we still have the same sins today
C. IT IS NOT THE FAULT OF THE GOSPEL THAT WE STILL
HAVE SIN AND TROUBLE
1. The Gospel is still God’s power to save-Rm. 1:16
V. SATAN SAME ADVERSARY TO GOD AND MAN
A. HE APPEARS AS: WOLF-ROARING LOIN-MINISTER OF
LIGHT
1. Wolf-Mt. 7:15-Appears in sheeps’ clothing
2. Loin-I Pet. 5:8-Roaring loin
3. Minister of light-2 Cor. 11:15
4. Like with Job he is still the accuser to God, seeking to find fault
B. HE STILL USES THE SAME ALLUREMENTS
1. Lust of the flesh-Lust of the eyes-Pride of life
VI. SAME NEED FOR THE GOSPEL, AS IN APOSTOLIC TIMES
A. THE GOSPEL REVEALS MAN’S SINS AND GIVES US THE
REMEDY
B. EACH CONVERSION ACCOUNT IN ACTS DETAILS THE
OLD SAVING POWER OF THE GOSPEL WHICH WE STILL
NEED
1. We would be presumptious to change the Gospel
C. THE FIRST CENTURY HAD A NEED FOR THE
PREACHING OF CHRIST ONLY, THE PROMISE OF
ETERNAL INHERITANCE THROUGH OBEDIENCE-I PET.
