April – September 2014

The new 2014 programme continues to build on the previous training programmes and continues to offer courses on the key themes affecting our children and families.

Learning and Development Programme

The Levels

The programme has combined elements of Calderdale Children’s Safeguarding Board and the Children’s Social Care offer and therefore is comprehensive package across a range of different levels:

Level 1 – (Foundation) will provide workers with an awareness of a subject and the knowledge required in undertaking their role. This assumes that the learner will be supported and supervised and their skills and practice monitored and assessed by others with more experience, knowledge and skill.

Level 2 – (Intermediate) For those who have completed level 1 or have been assessed as requiring more detailed knowledge of the subject. This could be due to their role, level of responsibility or for personal development. Workers should demonstrate how this learning can be transferred into practice and offer support to others with regard to the subject.

Level 3 – (Advanced) Suitable for those who have completed levels 1 and 2 or have demonstrated knowledge of the subject. These programmes are for those who due to their role, level of responsibility or for personal development require specialist subject knowledge and can use this to impact on service development, improvement of practice, or to meet legislative or service requirements.

If there are subject areas in which you would like to futher develop your knowledge beyond the scope of the training please contact the WFD Team. We have a range of resources that may be able to facilitate individual study.

Leoni Craigie, Workforce Development Officer for Early Intervention or Catherine Mawn, Qualification Development Officer for Children’s Social Care can be contacted to advise if you want to discuss the courses in detail or your particular needs.

How to Book

For Non-Calderdale MBC staff to request a place on courses

Please indicate in the RH column on the list which events you would like to attend and email the form to us at

Submission of an application form does not guarantee a place on an event. Course places are offered on a first come first served basis. Successful applicants will be sent a booking confirmation by email. Please note that CSCB courses will be confirmed by them directly.

For Calderdale MBC staff there is a new way to request a place on courses (DO NOT RETURN THIS FORM)

1.  Log on to Selima and click ‘self service’, then index

2.  Select ‘Work and Pay’, then ‘Training’ and then ‘All’

3.  Choose your course and click ‘Submit’ for approval by your line manager

4.  Please let your line manager know that you have submitted a request as this is a new process for everyone and they will have to approve your request before it reaches Workforce Development

5.  Once approved by your line manager, the Workforce Development team will process your request and confirm if you have been successful.

... and that’s it!

If you have any problems accessing self-service please call the Selima helpdesk on x8314 or contact .
