June 17, 10 LEWIS KATZ, WANTAGH, NY KATZ’S DOG “TURK” WAS SEIZED FROM HIS HOME (6/14) AFTER 2 EYE WITNESSES SAW HIM REPEATEDLY BEAT THE DOG, INFLICTING INTENSE AND RELENTLESS PAIN ON HIM. For some time now dogsof all breedshave gone missing in alarming numbers,many are targeted "pure bred" dogs only, others are not. Dog Brokering is taking place all over the country, NO particular area is exception.In addition to animals being sold into medical research,many and mostly the smaller breeds are beingsold in either Mexico or Canada.The States ofOhio, New Jersey & Wisconsin, contain numerousproduct testing facilities (not counting Universities &Pharmaceutical live animal testing in every state) Previously people were paid to obtain animals forthese facilities and sold to a federalbrokers for $25, who in turn sold those dogs for $500 to such facilities !Now that the licensed brokers arecurrently under investigation, this leaves brokering wide open for those who were being paid $25 to continue to obtain dogs for such facilities for a much higher fee. Iams dog food and Eukanuba in Racine, WI are two dog food companies who obtain dogs for testing, there are probably many more flying under the wire. This is one way of brokering.
The second as youwill see in the video, is obtaining dogs from the states, sold in Canada and Mexico to unsuspecting adopters.Dogs in the states are obtained in many ways, via snatching them out of their own yards/cars, dogs not in fenced yards, from other shelters/rescue groups, and from groups posing as legitimate adoption agencies. **Smaller dogs arein a huge target range group, they are much easier to transport across borders, but do not discount any breed of dog**

The facility where these dogs were abandoned is trying desperately to place these dogs or they will have to go back to the shelter in NYC.Please do not give this rescue anymore dogs. Alleged cruelty: mother and 23 year old son allegedly had a small dog covered in fecal matter and dried urine, kicked on multiple occasions, back recently sliced with a box cutter in attempt to remove matted fur. The dog, a senior, no veterinary care for the wound which became infected, dog became sick and died during the first week of April 2010. Offers to get veterinary care for the dog refused. They have two Pit Bull Terrier puppies. No charges filed because body had been buried by the time the Police and Animal Control knew where dog was housed. Animal Control has verified had not been to a Vet since early2007 for rabies vaccine.

"adopted" 3 cats to deal with the mouse problem in their neighborhood, let them loose to fend for themselves, but feed them once a day in an abandoned boiler room in their townhouse complex. I was able to catch one and need help trying to get the other one. He is dark and heavy I was told. 3rd one ran away. adopted 2-4 weeks ago. I am positive this family will try to adopt again once we reclaim these ones. Does anyone know which shelter they came from. The little girl next door thinks their names were MiMi and Ninja (but not positive)

This woman is a heavy smoker and does not have the financial means to take care of a pet properly. Her former kitty suffered with asthma and cancer for years before she finally had her euthanized. Despite the asthma, Diana continued to smoke in a closed room with her cat. The cat had severe mats, but this was not addressed. She also had flea allergies but Diana could not afford to purchase flea remedies for her. Another cat was left to suffer for days with a urinary blockage (again due to lack of money for vet care), and was finally euthanized only after animal control was contacted and a complaint was filed. I know this woman personally-do NOT adopt any animals to her. She will be looking to adopt in a few months-probably over the summer.

Abandoned Angels became aware of Mr. Loy's background only upon being informed by a witness who was present during their "training" that Mr. Loy repeatedly beat and kicked the two Cocker Spaniels in the presence of the adopter, Ms. Barr, and that he also used a cattle prod on at least one of the dogs. Upon receipt of this report Abandoned Angels made an emergency trip to Ms. Barr's home in Yardley, PA, to reclaim both Cocker Spaniels. Ms. Barr released the dogs only upon being threatened with legal action. <

Looking to adopt a senior cat - Adopted a senior cat and 6 hours after she left with the cat she chose to put him down solely on the fact that he was FIV positive, he was otherwise healthy and proclaimed so by the vet that had seen him for 18 months. She did this without contacting the foster home he had just come from.
I am personally familiar with this situation, the information is accurate. This woman technically didn't even "own" the cat yet. She took him on as a foster to see if things would work out with him at her home. She never contacted the woman who has fostered Slim for the last year and a half before having him euthanized.

12/14/09 from shannon.talanca@ verizon.net DISTURBING SITUATION: Ads popping up on the Philadelphia Craigslist from HIDDEN ACRES"promoting "open adoptions" which means anyone can show up and take a puppy home for a fee of $250, with absolutely no application or home visit. ALL are puppies (most 12 weeks and under), and 98% are small, fluffy dogs.
In addition to posting ads on Craigslist with links to photos supposedly of Associated Humane Societies in Newark, NJ. The photos display filfhy conditions stating that most rescues/shelters are run this way and most do not use funds for the animals, but rather to "line pockets". They have also begun posting on the global Craigslist Pets Forum section telling people "don't go to shelters and rescues"
Googling their phone number (856-469-7905) , I found a ton of Classified ads for puppies of the same breeds for SALE, not adoption. This person claims to "rescue" puppies from puppy mills that have "gotten too big" to be sold, yet nearly all of the dogs are 12 weeks of age or under. I happened to be online and in the Craigslist Pet Forum early this afternoon when the person who runs this outfit was online and she stated several different "explanations". First, they were all puppy mill rescues. Then, that she breeds bulldogs and bull terriers for show. THEN, that she gets the puppies from local private breeders to "help them find homes" (this would be called a puppy broker). Whether she is actually breeding them or acting as a puppy broker, I do not know, but I find it incredibly disturbing that she is claiming to be a RESCUE, and in the same breath telling people to stay AWAY from shelters and other rescues.

If anyone has any legal expertise and can check into what, if any, laws are being broken, that would be great. I also think it would be fantastic if anyone had contacts within Animal Control in her area (south New Jersey). I would be very curious to see what conditions these dogs are being kept in, and if she is over the legal limit. They also have a puppy-peddling website with puppies for sale, ps.com/.
Anyway, I find this whole situation disgusting and I cannot believe that people are going to this place thinking they are adopting a rescue dog, when in fact, they are buying and supporting a backyard breeder/puppy broker.

history of misrepresenting themselves as a shelter or rescue. address does not exist, have been investigated by the USDA and the CT- Attorney Generals office. Result: they were told not to advertise themselves as a shelter or rescue.. No one knows what they do with the animals but when investigated they were not able to produce any adoption records or vet records for doing over 20 years of whatever they do. In fact the only thing they turned over was a canceled check for chloroform, one of the cruelest ways to kill an animal.
