ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT MANAGER POST

This is an exciting opportunity to identify & develop Social Enterprises & Micro Business with a range of young people and adults and community groups.

Do you have experience in market analysis, business planning, and project management? Have you strong commercial acumen and entrepreneurial skills? Then you may be the person we need to help us achieve the growth of new social enterprises in this disadvantaged area of North Kensington.Ability to network with and influence people from diverse backgrounds is a must as is self-motivation and team work

The Enterprise Development Manager will also be responsible for portfolio management, overall strategic development, and contributing to action research and knowledge development through tool creation and presentations.

This post is funded by the Social Investment Business, and Futurebuilders and is part of a National Government Strategy to increase entrepreneurism and employment

ROLE PROFILE

Role Purpose:

To be the principal member of staff responsible for:

  • Developing new social enterprise & micro businesses with individuals and groups with a specific focus on young people
  • The strategic & operational delivery of the Social Enterprise Development Project
  • To develop the enterprise hub to ensure maximum occupancy and revenue
  • To generate income from social enterprises, tenders/contracts and other funding opportunities
  • To secure support from corporate sector and business
  • Working with the senior management team, the position will contribute to the development and implementation of organizational strategies, policies and practices.

Key Accountabilities

Responsible for: Operations and daily running of the Enterprise Hub, administrative, sessional and other staff and volunteers.

Key Objectives:

  • To manage and develop the facilities and premises as a dynamic and efficient hub for social enterprises in order to achieve maximum occupancy and income.
  • To manage and develop a number of new social enterprises
  • To generate income from developing social enterprises and winning new contracts and securing other sources of income and support.
  • To initiate, develop and support a high-calibre steering group or network of established entrepreneurs who will mentor the new social enterprises
  • To play a significant role in long-term planning, including an initiative geared toward operational excellence.
  • To be part of DNT’s senior management team and contribute actively to the organisation’s charitable objectives and development.

Core & Role Specific Competencies

  1. To engage, attract, inspire and support a range of individuals including young people, and community groups to develop their own enterprises
  1. To market and proactively promote the Enterprise Hub opportunities ( ‘virtual office’ business address, meeting rooms rental, training provision etc.) to private sector businesses, public sector and social enterprises
  1. To undertake outreach work with colleges, schools, business training organisations, entrepreneurs, companies, SME’s and social enterprises to promote the project
  1. To develop & support some in-house social enterprises which will provide surplus income towards achieving DNT`s stated aims in Business Plan.
  1. To explore business partnership ventures with private sector, voluntary sector bodies and social enterprises.
  1. To write or to support the writing of tenders and funding bids as required.
  1. To develop & deliver programmes/workshops/events to inspire and teach aspiring entrepreneursand to encourage networks
  1. To secure ‘pro bono’ private sector and other support, including financial support to help develop social enterprise business.
  1. Monitoring and reporting of centre & facilities performance to the Director & Trustees
  1. Implement quality assurance practices in order to achieve a new agreed quality mark
  1. To develop impact measurement tools and ensure the project is effectively evaluated
  1. To deputize for the Director as required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION: Enterprise Development Manager

Essential Qualifications

  • MBA (strong preference; other graduate degrees will be considered)
  • Qualification in Basic Business support (SFEDI)
  • Minimum of three years’ business consulting experience, minimum one year client management responsibilities
  • Strong analytical skills; ability to independently set up and execute appropriate analyses for individual business plans, business ideas, and social enterprises to minimise risk and maximize investment
  • Demonstrated ability to draw conclusions and make concrete, actionable recommendations based on data and analysis
  • Community Development experience (minimum 2 years)
  • Strong PowerPoint skills; ability to create a well-framed PowerPoint document
  • Strong Excel skills: demonstrated ability to build rigorous yet easy to use financial and operational models in Excel
  • Strong financial analysis skills; knowledge of accounting and financial reporting best practices
  • Mentoring experience (minimum one year)
  • Effective written and oral communication; well-developed interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, tact and patience
  • Ability to elicit information from and provide guidance to people with a wide range of cultural backgrounds, training and experience; experience working with mixed cultures and skill levels
  • Enjoy working independently, with some degree of flexibility and ambiguity
  • Enjoy working as part of a team, exchanging insights and following up on team members’
  • Skill working with Word and Outlook and ability to work extensively at a computer
  • Ability to work in an open office environment

This is a 12-month, fixed-term contract, and remuneration will be circa £30,000 per annum.
