PRESS RELEASE:

New Weekly Skills Club to support young people with autism in Leominster

A grant of £8,568 has been awarded by the DM Thomas Foundation to Crossroads Care Forest of Dean and Herefordshire to stablish a new Weekly Skills Club for young people with autism in Leominster.

The Weekly Skills Club will help young people with autism aged between 16 and 24 who, due to their disability, cannot access educational or employment opportunities. Skills Clubs provide a vibrant, safe and welcoming environment in which young people with autism can build their confidence and develop social skills. The clubs enhance the well-being and self-esteem of the young people and allow them to create new friendships with their peers.

The Weekly Skills Club will be delivered by Crossroads Care Forest of Dean and Herefordshire, a specialist charitable organisation that provides practical help, support and social opportunities to carers and those they care for across all ages and disabilities.

Simon Sheehan, Director of the DM Thomas Foundation for Young People said: “At the Foundation we are committed to help disadvantaged young people achieve their full potential. We are proud to support this project that will allow many young people with autism develop their skills, reach their goals and live fulfilling and rewarding independent lives.”
