Brief History of the District
The erstwhile Garhwa Sub-Division of Plamu District Consisting of 8 Blocks was separated from palamu district as an independent district ßGarhwaß with effect from 1st April 1991. It is situated on south-West Corner of PalamuCommissionery while lies between 23˚ 60ˊ and 24˚ 39ˊ N latitude and 83˚ 22ˊ and 84˚ 00ˊ E longitude. The district is surrounded by the river sone and parts of areas of the district of kaimur and rohtash of the state of Bihar in the North, by the state of Chhattisgarh in the South Garhwa district in the East and Ramanujganj of the state of Chhattishgarh and sonebhadra district of the state of uttarpradesh in the West. The district consists of 19 Community Devolapment Blocks, Two Nagarpanchayat and one census town Sinduriya. There are altogethers 888 Villages (844 inhabitentvillage and 44 uninhabitent village) in the district. C.D. Block Garhwa has the Highest number of villages (122) in the district and C.D. Block Danda has the lowest number of villages (07)

The Normal Rainfall of the District is 1237.40 mm. and actual Rainfall of the year 2013 is
10337 mm. The Rainfall during the month of June to October is found to be more than the
evoporation from open pan. The month wise Rainfall Garhwa district is given blow.

CLIMATE
The climate of the district is warm and humid with mean maximum and minimum
temprature of 45˚ C and 3.9˚ C respectively April, May and June are the hottest months and
December, January are the coldest month. The month wise mean temperature in distict is

Administrative Units-
Garhwa district is located in the extreme west of the state of Jharkhand. It Consists of three sub-division Garhwa, Ranka and Nagar uteri and 19 Community development blocks. Garhwa (20 wards) and Majhiaon (12 wards) are two Nagarpanchayat of the district, the other beings census town Sinduriya. There are altogether 888 Villages (844 inhabitent and 44 uninhabitent) in the district, 193 panchayats and 21 Nagarparishad members. The Dupty commissioner is the administrative head of the district whereas Suprintendent of police head the police administrative. Judicial Commissinor head the judiciary in the district. Sub-divisional officer is responsible for running the administration of the sub- divison under the control and supervision of the DuptyCommissionr. Each Community Deveolapment Block is headed by Block Deveolapment Officer. Block Devolapment Officer are main implementing agencies of deveolapment program under taken by D.R.D.A. and Welfare department.
The Circle Officer are interested with revenue administration and relief works. Social Security Schemes like old age Pension and family benefit schemes are also interested to Circle Officer. Besides this child development project officer are posted in every blocks. They are mainly interested with programsof I.C.D.S. and social security.
It consists of 2 (Two) Unreserve Assembly seat and the part of Parliamentary Constituencies Palamu.
Area and Population-
Garhwa Ranks 10th in terms of Population (1322784) and 7th in terms of area 396968.53 Hector ( 4093Sq.Km) in the state Jharkhand. Chiniya Block has the Largest area (28549.96 Hector) and Danda Block has the smallest area 3182.27 Hector. Madgari (Under Bhandariya Block) has the largest area (4214.59 Hectors) and Naubhilma(under Kandi Block) has the smallest area (3 hector) among the village in the district.
In 2011 Garhwa has population of 1322784 of which male and female were 683575 and 639209 respectively. Garhwa district population constituted 4.01 Percent of total population of Jharkhand. The SC Population 24.19 percent and ST population 15.56 percent of the total population as of the district. There was change of 27.75 percent in the population compared to population as per 2001. In the previous census of india 2001, Garhwa district recorded increase of 29.21 percent to its population compared to 1991. Arsali (Under Bhavnathpur Block) is the most populated village (12037) and pokharaha (Under Ramuna Block) saharastalkalan (Nagar uteri Block), Daldulia and Boila(Under RankaBlocks ) are the least populated village (1) in the district.
In the terms of population per Sq.Km. Garhwa is the 16th densely populated district in the state with 323 person per Sq. Km. as against the state 414.
Sex Ratio in Garhwa, it stood at 935 per 1000 male compared to 2001 census figure of 934. The average national sex ratio in India is 940 as per Latest reports of census 2011.
2011 census, child sex ratio is 960 girls per 1000 boys compared to figure of 962 girls per 1000 boys of 2001 census data. Garhwa ranks 19th in terms of sex ratio 935 against the state 949. In census data regarding child under 0-6 age were also collected for all district including Garhwa. There were total 239664 children under age of 0-6 against 226883 of 2001 census of the total 239664 male and female were 122305 and 117359 respectively.

Child sex ratio as per census 2011 was 960 compared to 962 of census 2001. In 2011 children under 0-6 formed 18.12 percent of Garhwa district compared to 21.91 percent of 2001. There was net change of -3.79 percent in the compared to previous census of India.
The percentage of main workers to total population of the district is 13.24 and the percentage of marginal workers to total population of the district is 29.96.
The percentage of Hindu, Muslim, Christian and others 83.81, 14.40, 1.19 and 0.60 to total population of the district.
