SECTION 1:

District Governor, District Secretary, District Treasurer, Sergeant-at-Arms

NAME:Paul AnsticeOFFICE: District Governor

DATE:23rd July 2012

ACTIONS TAKEN SINCE LAST MEETING:

Since the last cabinet and the informal meeting of this cabinet in May, I have completed the following actions:

  • Attended DGE training at Busan. Whilst much of the training carried out in Busan was a repeat of the training for VDGs and DGEs given by the MD GLT over the past two years, it was a valuable experience share this with DGEs from America, Australia, New Zealand, India, Sri Lanka, the Netherlands, Poland, Hungary and Lithuania, all of whom run their Districts in different ways.
  • Attended International Convention. With over 55,000 attendees Convention was well run although the behaviour of some countries on the final day when the DGEs took their oath could have been better. IP Tam gave a comprehensive review of his year, there was an interesting presentation by Dr Chan of the WHO and the new IP Wayne Madden outlined his vision for the year ‘In a World of Service’, in particular his Reading Action Programme (RAP) initiative.
  • Attended District Handover. It was a huge pleasure and privilege to badge up this year’s cabinet officers and I would like to thank everyone for such a great turnout.
  • Arranged club visits for the first three months of the year. These start in August and because we have introduced the shared visits hopefully will be completed by Convention (apart from two exceptions).
  • Held first Governors Team meeting with the VDGs.
  • Attended the first full Council of Governors meeting at St John’s Hotel in Solihull although a short emergency Council meeting was held at Busan to agree some urgent decisions.
  • Produced two DG Newsletters for July and August.
  • Approved and signed paperwork for the charter of Harborough Twenty 12 Lions Club on Saturday 24th November. A lot of hard work has gone into building Market Harborough branch in a sustainable manner so that it can be chartered as a club in its own right and all credit must go to the branch members, Market Harborough Lions Club and GMT for this achievement. I hope that District officers and clubs in the District will celebrate with charter members of the new club at their charter presentation.
  • Attended the funeral of Lion Gordon McQuillan of Barwell and Earl Shilton Lions Club. Attending funerals of Lions who have moved to higher service is always the sad part of being District Governor.
  • Attended and presented prizes at Market Harborough Sports day organised and run by Market Harborough branch.
  • Attended Edgbaston Lions Club Indian Evening, helped induct three new members and learnt some new dance movements.
  • Attended Northampton Lions Club ‘Summer Starters’ and had very enjoyable afternoon in the sun.

OBJECTIVES:

  • To manage the District in an efficient and effective manner
  • To support the cabinet officers in their roles and achievement of their personal objectives
  • To support and encourage clubs and Lions around the District in ‘touching the hearts of those in need’
  • To take an active role in the decision making and running of the Multiple District
  • To have an enjoyable and memorable year.

30th June 2012 – District Membership Drive – Smethwick Mela

Thanks to Lions Heather Lee, Joy Haffner and Ian Haffner for attending this membership drive. It was a free event to attend and the lion’s logo was very visible – the rolls of Lions Stickers are a must – an easy way to get talking to people. Over 100 entries received through the Free Prize Draw with just under 30 people requesting further information. The only disappointment was that no clubs (other than Sandwell) attended to support the recruitment drive.

Continuing to liaise with Bilston and Willenhall Lions Club with regards to the membership drive at Baggeridge Country Fayre.

OBJECTIVES:

To support clubs in the Region and to support the vision for the district.
