·  Call to Order:

Meeting called to order at 7:00 pm by Richie Deason

Invocation/Joke Master:

Richie gave us some of his thoughts on the upcoming Super Bowl – great joke about the centipede getting his ankles tapped in the first half and that is why the little animals were able to defeat the big animals in the second half. There was no pledge due to there not being a flag available.

Richie then introduced the Toastmaster of the evening, Jim Dawson.

Speech-a-thon Begins:

Speeches: Prepared speeches began at 7:15pm

“You Can Take the Boy out of the Mountain, but not the Mountain out of the Boy” – Mary Mahon-Fordis

“THE answer to health crisis….Commercials” – Yale Nogin

(Manual: CC, Speech #6: Vocal Variety; Time: 5-7 min) – Yale thinks the way to beat the health crisis is through advertising about drinking more water and exercising!! Who would have thunk that would work?

“Pawsitive Communication Strategies for Veterinary Clinics” – Sandy Weaver Carman

Break

“New Rains” – Mack Miller

(Manual: CC, Speech #10, Inspired Your Audience; Time 8 – 10 min) Mack told us about how he became a member of the President’s Club and how our club is similar to the Mississippi River and we need “new rains” a/k/a “New Members” to sustain our club.

“YOUR Voice” – Mike Hilgers

“The Stamp Set” – Tom Nixon

(Manual: Advanced, Speech #2, Let’s Get Personal; Time 5 – 7 min) Tom lead us through his journey to become a graphic artist and it all began with a Stamp Set he received when he was 8 years old. Through the stamp set he grew to love the alphabet and all that it means to everyone throughout the world.

Timer’s Report – All Speakers Qualified, with the exception of Sandy Weaver Carman and Mack Miller. All were shocked that Judi Rogers did not go over time. Well done, Judi! No voting took place for best speaker as this was a special event to host more speakers for the evening. Silent evaluations were given to each of the speakers.
