Title Page

Follow the format of the Sample Title Page included on page 5. The title and author entries are centered within the margins of the title page. The title, in all capitals, is double spaced and should presented in an inverted pyramid style if longer than 48 spaces. This page is counted as "I" but pagination is not shown.

The abstract should be no more than 350 words and should contain a statement of the problems, the materials, the methods or procedures used, a presentation of principle results, and a conclusion or summary. The body of the abstract should be single spaced and limited to one page. Number the abstract page as "ii" in pagination.

DistinctionProject Preparation

Form

Print one-sided on 8" x 11" white, bond paper.

Spacing

Double space all materials in text. Single spacing may be used for footnotes or for quotations of five or more lines.

Print Size and Quality

Standard pica (10 characters per inch), elite (12 characters per inch), or proportional spacing is required. Script or slanted typefaces are not acceptable. Italics may be used for book or journal titles, scientific names of species, and other appropriate situations. Acceptable print quality: letter-quality (LaserJet or inkjet).

Margins

Acceptable margin settings are 2" on the left side and 1" top, right side, and bottom. The area within the margins must contain all parts of the project—all parts of the illustrations, the graphs, the body of the project, and the page numbers.

Page Numbering

Page numbers should be in the upper right hand corner, 1" from the top and 1" from the right edge of each page. Pages prior to the body of the project should be numbered with small Roman numerals (I, ii, iii, etc.); the body of the project through the index should be numbered with Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, etc.).

Submission toLOGOS: A Journal of Undergraduate Research

All students earning honors distinction should consider submitting final projects to LOGOS: A Journal of Undergraduate Research. When emailing the electronic version of your paper to the editor for submission, the Reason/Subject line of the email must read "LOGOS Submission."

  • Text submissions must be in Microsoft Word format.
  • The file name should be the title of the work as it is to appear in publication.
  • Images (i.e. drawings, paintings, photographs, graphs, charts, formulas) must be submitted in a separate electronic file, either TIFF or PNG format for all color images. Black and white images are acceptable in JPEG format, but only at a resolution of 350 DPI or higher. Text that is meant to have figures or illustrations embedded within should contain a legend from which editors may refer to for the appropriate images in their reading.

Necessary information in body of email (not the submission itself):

For editorial purposes, the email should include the following information, from a to f, in the following order:

  1. Title of the submission
  2. Class the submission was created for and faculty member who taught the course
  3. Citation style used, if applicable
  4. Author name(s) and department(s)
  5. Author contact information, including mailing address, telephone number, and email address
  6. A 2–3 sentence description of the author's/authors' interests, academics, and career goals, which will be used if the work is published

Author description example: Jane Doe is a senior Professional Writing major at Missouri State University. She plans on attending a graduate school to get her Master of Arts in Writing. In the future, she hopes to work in the publishing field as an editor.

Include the following attachments with your submission:

  1. Abstract

All submissions must include a brief abstract (or summary). This abstract ought to be included within the same electronic file that contains the submission. There are many abstract-writing help websites. We recommend Abstract Help.

  • Academic abstracts should summarize the purpose, the methods, the results, and conclusions of the research. Abstracts will be published as a preface to the submission.
  • Creative abstracts should provide information on the author, the context, the influences, and the artistic intent. If you can, help the reviewers to understand exactly what makes the piece original. You may also include information about materials and techniques.
  1. Additional files/material
  • A professional looking photograph of the author (in the event of publication, this photograph will be placed next to the author blurb in the journal).
  • The Author's Agreement MUST be printed, filled out and signed, and returned to the Honors College (at the address below) for the submission to be eligible for publication. Another option is to scan the signed agreement and email it with your submission.
