This section includes:
Seal-Krete Original Waterproofing Sealer a water-based, acrylic waterproofer for vertical concrete and masonry surfaces. Excellent for concrete block, brick, stucco, synthetic stucco, plaster, masonite, drywall, galvanized metal, aluminum siding, adobe, and stone.
Seal-Krete Heavy Duty Waterproofer a 25 percent high-solid waterproofer provides maximum protection for low density concrete and masonry. Rated for both residential and commercial use, and conforms to ASTM E-514 and other tests for wind-driven rain. Paintable, long-lasting, environmentally-safe and tintable. Excellent for split-face, fluted and decorative block.
Stucco-Guard(r) a premium, low luster, water-based acrylic sealer that provides a tough, flexible water-resistant film for new or aged stucco surfaces. It penetrates deeply into stucco pores, providing protection against color bleeding, premature fading, and mold and mildew growth. Ideal for hurricane/storm-prone areas as it stops wind-driven rain and helps prevent weather damage from freeze/thaw cycles when applied according to specification..

1.5   QUALITY ASSURANCE

A.   Regulatory Requirements: Products shall comply with federal, state, and local volatile organic compounds (VOC) regulations.

B.   Mock-Ups: Provide sealer material for mock-ups specified in affected sections.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete the following paragraph if not required.

C.   Pre-Installation Meeting:

1.   Convene at job site seven calendar days prior to scheduled beginning of construction activities of this section to review requirements of this section.

2.   Require attendance by representatives of the following:

a.   Sealer manufacturer.

b.   Installer of this section.

c.   Other entities directly affecting, or affected by, construction activities of this section.

3.   Notify Architect four calendar days in advance of scheduled meeting date.

1.6   DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A.   Store products of this section in manufacturer's unopened packaging until installation.

B.   Maintain storage area conditions for products of this section in accordance with manufacturer's instructions until installation.

1.7   PROJECT CONDITIONS

A.   Do not apply sealer to surfaces below 50 degrees F (10 degrees C) or above 95 degrees F (48 degrees C) unless recommended by the manufacturer.

B.   Do not apply sealer when rain is predicted within 24 hours or less than 1 day after surface has been wet.

C.   Do not apply sealer in high or gusty winds.

1.8   WARRANTY

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Verify that the contractor or installer would be willing to provide the following warranty.

A.   Provide a warranty against failure due to incorrect application for a period of 5 years from the date of Substantial Completion.

B.   Provide the manufacturer's limited warranty against failure of sealer installation due to failure of sealer material for a period of 5 years from the date of Substantial Completion.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.1   MANUFACTURERS

B.   Requests for substitution will be considered in accordance with provisions of Section 01600.

C.   Substitutions: Not permitted.

2.2   MATERIALS

A.   Waterproof Sealer: Seal-Krete Waterproofing Sealer; a clear, non-staining, waterborne acrylic-base penetrating sealerprimer containing low quantities of VOCs (volatile organic compounds);.

1.   Resistance to Water Penetration: Minimum rating of Excellent, when tested according to FS TT-P-0035, modified using 4 by 8 by 16 inch (100 by 200 by 400 mm) concrete block, at equivalent of 98 mph (158 km/h) wind speed.

2.   Resistance to Water Penetration: No more than 25 percent dampness appearing on back of wall specimen, when tested in accordance with ASTM E 514 for 4 hours.

3.   Water Vapor Transmission: 3.6 perms (207 ng/(Pa s sqm), maximum, when tested in accordance with ASTM D 1653.

4.   Corrosion Resistance: No visible degradation of film after 48 hours, when subjected to sodium hypochlorite, hydrochloric acid, sodium chloride (salt), and chlorine.

5.   Volume Solids: 10 percent, minimum.

6.   Flammability: Non-flammable.

7.   Toxicity: USDA approved for application to surfaces where there is possibility of contact with food.

8.   Tensile Strength: 1000 psi (6890 kPa).

9.   Freeze/Thaw Stability: 1 to 2 cycles.

10.   Fading Resistance: Approximately 0.05 percent, maximum, after 312 hours of testing.

11.   Comply with Florida Department of Transportation Specification 926-16 for Type "O" Compounds, Florida DOT Method FM5-518.

B.   Heavy Duty Commercial Grade Waterproofer: Seal-Krete Heavy Duty Commercial Grade Waterproofer; an advanced, high-solids, siliconized, acrylic blend designed to protect and strengthen bare, porous concrete and masonry, such as split-face or fluted concrete block. Provides a tough, breathable film that will not yellow.

1.   Resistance to Water Penetration: No more than 25 percent dampness appearing on back of wall specimen, when tested in accordance with ASTM E 514 for 4 hours.

2.   Solids Content: 25 percent minimum.

3.   Meets FS SS-W-110C for Water Repellency on Masonry.

4.   Mildew Resistance: ASTM D 5590.

5.   Flammability: Non-flammable.

6.   Toxicity: USDA approved for application to surfaces where there is possibility of contact with food.

C.   Low Luster Waterproof Sealer: Seal-Krete Stucco-Guard, Clear, low luster, non-staining, waterborne acrylic-base penetrating sealerprimer containing low quantities of VOCs (volatile organic compounds).

1.   Resistance to Water Penetration: Meets ASTM E 514 for wind driven rain or up to 124 mph.

2.   VOC Actual: Less than 100 g/L, ASTM D 3960.

3.   Solids Contents: 20 pecent.

4.   Non-yellowing.

5.   Reduces cracking.

6.   Enhances color.

7.   Binds chalky surfaces.

8.   Reduces efflorescence.

9.   Resists mold and mildew growth.

10.   Low odor.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1   EXAMINATION

A.   Verify that substrates to receive sealer are prepared in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

3.2   PREPARATION

A.   Protect adjacent surfaces to prevent accidental application to surfaces not indicated to receive sealer; remove accidental applications from surfaces immediately, following manufacturer's instructions.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete the following paragraph if no existing surfaces to be coated in project.

B.   Preparation of existing surfaces:

1.   Remove loose or deteriorated materials, including, but not limited to, scale, spalling, paint, or other coatings.

2.   Clean with detergent-based materials, as recommended by manufacturer's instructions; cleaning with solvent-based or oil-based cleaners is prohibited.

3.3   APPLICATION

A.   Apply sealer in accordance with manufacturer's instructions for indicated project conditions; for multi-coat applications, allow specified curing time between subsequent coats.

B.   Addition of materials to sealer is prohibited, except as recommended by manufacturer.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete the following paragraph if no non-pigmented sealer is required. Delete all surfaces that are not to be coated.

C.   Apply non-pigmented sealer to the following surfaces:

1.   New foundation walls as primer for subsequent installation of waterproofing specified in Section 07140.

2.   Existing foundation walls as primer for subsequent installation of waterproofing specified in Section 07140.

3.4   CLEAN-UP AND STORAGE

A.   Clean adjacent surfaces with soap and water. Do not flush to sanitary sewer or waterway.

B.   Wait thirty days before rinsing or cleaning surface. Do not use abrasive cleaners, rotating tip devices or pressure-washers on surface.

3.5   PROTECTION

A.   Protect installed products until completion of project.

B.   Touch-up, repair or replace damaged surfaces before Substantial Completion.
