Discovery Preschool 2017

Happy Holidays! The month of December is a time of seasonal fun in our preschool classroom. In the coming weeks we will be reading various gingerbread storiesand making comparisons of the many versions of gingerbread literature. To enhance our story reading we will be baking “run- away” cookies, experimenting with gingerbread science, practicing skills of sizes and position words.

Our winter holiday celebrations will include a short unit on Spanish language and culture. Also, during this holiday season, we will be making gifts and discussing the joy of giving and sharing with family and friends.

It is the intent of Discovery Preschool to celebrate the holidays with respect to all our varied traditions and celebrations. If your family has a special tradition that they would like to share with our school please let us know. Also, we respect that not all families participate in Santa activities. Again, we respect your family choices and ask that you talk to the teachers so that we best adjust our activities to meet your needs.

December 21 and 22 isP.J. DAY: It is a preschool tradition to wear pajamas to school on the last day of classes before the winter holiday. Most children enjoy this silly behavior of wearing P.J.’s to preschool. Some children are not comfortable with this “breaking of the norm”. And that’s OK. We simply want your child to have a great day; pajamas or street clothes.

Our other tradition is to create a special take- home project. This year we will make a jingle bell necklace. Family and friends are invited to stay and enjoy the day! Siblings are welcome - just let us know in advance so that we can have adequate supplies.

SANTA AND CO. VISIT: In the past we have been able to enlist a volunteer Santa and Mrs. Claus. I am still working out the details. The visits are scheduled for approx. 9:00 in each class group. We will invite our North Pole friends to the basement for pretend sleigh rides and snowball games. Our party day ends with children cuddled together for stories and videos.

HOLIDAY BREAK: There will be no preschool or wrap care from December 23 through January 2. All programs resume on January 3, 2018.

HOLIDAY GIFTS:Good heavens, you are a generous group of families! I have received some requests to create a wish list for preschool and wrap care supplies. Ms. Melissa and I will be organizing a wish list that will include gently used snow clothes, toys and misc. supplies that would be appreciated in our classrooms. The list will be available on the website by the first week of December.

THANK YOU: Ms. Melissa, Ms. Desi and Ms. Riccyand myself, would like to extend our gratitude to the many families, parents, and friends who have helped in the classroom this fall, volunteered and generously donated to our manyfund-raising events and assisted in the Fall Feast Day. Thank you for sharing your children with us. Every day we smile with fond memories of the day’s events and your child’s uniqueness. We look forward to many more rewarding preschool experiences in 2018!

Discovery Preschool Board of Directors and teachers wish you and your family a magical holiday season.
