  1. Catalog Description:

A stimulating, high energy, water workout that combines both shallow- and deep- water exercise. It is appropriate for both swimmers and non-swimmers. Activities are performed in deep water with the aid of flotation belts that allow participation without submerging. Emphasis is on improving health-related components of physical fitness: flexibility, muscular strength and endurance, cardiovascular-respiratory endurance, and body composition. (W)

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:

  • Identify and define the components of health related fitness and wellness
  • Identify health risk factors and major health issues associated with physical inactivity
  • Develop a plan of behavior change that improves health related fitness and enhances the components of wellness
  • Experience and gain through participation the benefits of physical activity and exercise
  • Identify changes in the health related components of physical fitness: flexibility, muscular strength/endurance, cardiovascular-respiratory endurance and body composition
  • Demonstrate the safe use of equipment
  • Demonstrate effective water exercise techniques
  • Identify basic anatomy of the body specific to water exercise
  • Identify related fitness skills that can be used for a lifetime
  • Experience, through participation, the value of water exercise as a viable activity for lifetime fitness and overall health and well being
