DIRECTOR OF MUSIC FOR ST SAVIOUR’S CHURCH, PIMLICO

JOB INFORMATION

St Saviour's, Pimlico is at an exciting time in its restoration and development. A number of projects are about to commence, including a major re-roofing and the whole building being rewired and relit.

The Organ

Our 1870/1894 three-manual William Hill organ will undergo a conservative restoration. In the 1960s the tracker action was replaced with inferior pneumatic action and the Hill manuals removed. A new console and action with modern playing aids will be installed. The restoration work will be undertaken by Bishop and Sons who will replace the manuals with contemporaneous Hill manuals.

The Choir

For many years there has been a small amateur choir who are very much a part of our regular congregation. We also host the chamber choir Canticum, who rehearse at St Saviour's and presently join us for services four times a year. The Director of Music will be encouraged to develop these relationships and interact with the wider community and to raise the standard of music and singing.

When the nave is re-wired it is hoped that the current pews will be replaced with some form of seating that will be able to be moved. This will make the nave a performance space for a variety of concerts and other events involving the local community.

With an enlarged choir the Director of Music will be encouraged to broaden the musical repertoire. Funding for music will be provided where appropriate.
