Purpose of the Job

The Children’s Minister is responsible to integrate the church-wide mission, vision and values into the programming and activities of the Children’s Ministry (Nursery-5th grade). This role will accomplish this objective by recruiting, training, and equipping volunteers to minister to the children. In addition to the focus on volunteers, the Children’s Minister will develop a relevant, caring and fun environment that challenges the children to grow in their faith.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Recruit and develop a Children’s Ministry (CM) Team
  • Provide leadership to the CMTeam
  • Provide strategic leadership and planning initiatives for the CM Team
  • Set direction and train CM partners
  • Provide pastoral care and encouragement for CM partners
  • Develop processes necessary for effective CM operations (e.g. check-in)
  • Responsible for CM budget and financial oversight
  • Oversee the selection and implementation of curriculum
  • Develop communication plans to keep staff, partners and parents informed
  • Responsible for all staffing of CM (including training)
  • Manage communications between ministries that interact with CM
  • Develop and implement all safety and security processes for CM in cooperation with the church’s safety and security processes
  • Oversee and implement all programming for CM (primarily Sunday School, Kid Builders, and KidZone [Nursery – 5th])
  • Coordinate family events and camps for CM parents and families
  • Establish and/or grow partnerships with local schools and other organizations
  • Partner with parents to help them connect/communicate/disciple/train their children

Spiritual Development

The work of those employed by the church is unique and important because this labor contributes to the strength and advancement of God’s Kingdom. Thus it is imperative that attention be given toward the development of one’s spiritual health through prayer and the regular intake of God’s Word. Participation in the life of the church by worship, service, and tithing is essential. Staff members are expected to live in a lifestyle that is both Godly and ‘above reproach’.

Staff Relationships

All staff of CHCC will work and serve as a team. A commitment to loyalty and community needs to be of extreme importance within staff relationships. Communication of any personal or professional differences should be a priority among the parties involved. These differences should stay within the context of the staff relationships.

Communication

It is understood that all new programs, special calendar events or significant alterations to existing programs will be discussed and approved at the regular Staff Meeting.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required, Master’s Degree Preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience

Relationships:

  • Reports to Associate Minister
  • Works particularly close with Student Minister as children transition from Children’s Ministry to Student Ministry
  • Works closely with all areas of ministries within Chapel Hill Christian Church
