PRE-SCHOOL MANAGER

The Pre-school Manager reports to the Management Committee.

Job Purpose

To provide safe, high quality education and care for pre-school children following the Early Years Foundation Stage guidelines; to supervise staff on a day to day basis; to contribute to and implement pre-school policies.

Key Responsibilities

·  To take responsibility for the drawing up of curriculum plans, working with the staff to ensure that each child is working towards desirable learning outcomes, and that all religious, cultural, and special needs are reflected; to monitor the effectiveness of the EYFS within the pre-school.

·  To be responsible for providing a high quality of teaching, ensuring that staff are properly deployed and offer appropriate stimulation and support to the children in their learning whilst maintaining the philosophy of a play- based curriculum; to promote the Chestnut’s ethos of praising positive behaviour.

·  To supervise the daily programme of pre-school activities and events, and to share the responsibility of activity preparation, ensuring there is a good balance of both child-initiated and adult led activities.

·  To organise the key person system and take personal responsibility moderating Tapestry observations before making them ‘live’ to parents.

·  To be responsible for implementing systems of observation and record keeping so that the children’s attainment and progress is effectively and regularly assessed; to monitor the effectiveness of assessment procedures. Collated and analysed through Tapestry system.

·  To supervise, manage and lead staff on a daily basis; to be responsible for monitoring the quality of teaching; to participate in staff appraisals and supervision meetings recommending appropriate targets; to encourage personal and professional development and to identify training needs; to value, support and motivate staff in their role.

·  To manage and support the pre-school Administrator who works 1 day a week in their role ensuring pre-school policies and procedures are adhered to, the website updated regularly and to work with the Administrator to organise appropriate resources for the pre-school working within an agreed budget negotiated with the committee, keeping appropriate auditable records of transactions. (Administrator has key responsibilities held separately to this role)

·  To organise Key working children and assign to key people along with planning sessions for new intakes in advance of the term beginning.

·  To manage and respond to emails, direct relationships with parents, and telephone conversations.

·  To conduct setting tours for new parents

·  To ensure records are properly maintained, e.g. daily attendance register, accident and incident book.

·  To liase closely with parents/carers, informing them about the pre-school and the Early Years Foundation Stage, exchanging information about their children’s progress, encouraging parents’ involvement.

·  To organise parent consultation evenings and new parent’s evenings and to take part in the AGM, presenting power point presentations using the interactive whiteboard.

·  To attend home visits with the relevant key person to ensure parents are able to meet with the manager prior to their child starting at the pre-school.

·  To ensure that the pre-school is a safe environment for children and adults, risks assessments are completed, that equipment is safe, standards of hygiene are high, health and safety procedures are implemented at all times and fire drills and lock downs are regularly practised. To be the nominated Health and Safety Person within the setting.

·  To work closely with the management committee, attending meetings as required; to advise about changes and developments to the curriculum; to act as the interface between the staff and the committee; to agree any action plans and work with the committee to implement; to assist in recruitment and induction of new staff; to consult on a regular basis any matters of concern.

·  To contribute to and to implement all pre-school policies and procedures, especially those on inclusive practice and additional needs. Updated annually, these must be reviewed and updated where necessary before being passed to Chair Person for approval and signature.

·  To lead monthly staff meetings and attend in service training and meetings as required, and any other training thought beneficial by the individual and committee.

·  To foster a positive relationship with our main feeder school ‘The Hawthorns Primary’, and ‘Yellow Brick House nursery’ maintaining the existing links; and to be aware of the other schools in the area.

·  To gather feedback from parents by way of questionnaires, or verbally, to aid continuous improvement and reflective practice.

·  To update the SEF (self-evaluation form) on the Ofsted website annually; to be used for reflection on practice and as a tool for Ofsted inspections.

·  To update staff on a weekly basis by way of the weekly news to ensure all staff are kept up to date with any information sharing (due to part time hours).

·  Keep confidential any information regarding children, their families, staff and committee members that is learned as part of the job.

·  To work as the SENCO, (gaining support and guidance from deputy SENCO) working with key people to identify children needing support. Work with key people and 1-1 supports to gain information for completing EYIF and continuation funding applications, and submit within given deadlines.

·  To work alongside CPLP and LLP representatives; to liaise with outside agencies/ other professionals as necessary and ensure that all legal and statutory requirements are implemented, to provide reports as required

·  To be the Deputy CPLP

·  To undertake any other duties that may become necessary as agreed by the committee.
