Prehistoric times were periods in human history before written language existed. The Stone Ages were part of Prehistoric times. During The Stone Ages, humans used tools made of stone because metal had not been discovered yet.
There are actually two Stone Ages. The first is the Paleolithic Age, also called “The Old Stone Age.” During this period humans lived as foragers because they hunted animals and gathered nuts and berries for food. These hunter-gatherers lived as nomads since they needed to follow animals and find new sources of berries and nuts in order to survive.

Since there was medium levels of food the amount of people in these hunter-gatherer groups was low. Traveling with these smaller groups allowed hunter-gatherers to survive more successfully, but without the benefit of having permanent housing. We know this about hunter-gatherers due to the artifacts that they left behind.
