DIPLOMA THESIS BINDING, EXTERNAL DESIGN AND SUBMISSION

Dear graduates,

You are already familiar with the requirements for diploma thesis writing and title page layout. Here we present the requirements for binding, external design of the diploma thesis cover and the CD cover, the presence of signatures, and the diploma thesis submission.

The diploma thesis shall be submitted within the specified time limits for each session period.

We would like to emphasize from the outset that throughout the various procedural stages, only diploma theses that fully meet those requirements shall be accepted.

1.Graduates’ personal signatures:

The graduates of the Bulgarian taught programs shall put their signatures on the diploma thesis title page and under the Declaration of Authorship.

The graduates of the English taught programs shall put their signatures on the Declaration of Authorship and on the Ethics Form of the thesis.

2.Signatures of research leaders/supervisors, members of the Approval Committee and reviewers:

When graduates of the Bulgarian taught programs submit their diploma theses, the signature of the research leader/supervisor shall be placed on the title page.

The research leader/supervisor and of the member of the Approval Committee that had reviewed and approved the Ethics Form shall sign the Ethics Form to the diploma theses of graduates from the English taught programs.

The name and the signature of the reviewer of the title page of a diploma thesis submitted by a graduate from a Bulgarian taught program shall be placed at the time of the diploma thesis defense.

3.Within the specified time limits, each graduate shall submit:

1 hardback copy of the diploma thesis. It shall be bound by the pattern adopted by VUM, that identifies each graduate and his/ her major in the best way possible:

1 copy of the report /no less than 2500 and no more than 3 000 words/ presenting the diploma thesis, accompanied by a summary both in Bulgarian and in English for the Bulgarian students from all programs, and only in English for the foreign students; and with the keywords marked /in Bulgarian and English or in English only/. The report shall be added as a separate paper to the hard copy of the diploma thesis.

1 CD with 2 files /Word 2003/ - 1 file – the electronic version of the diploma thesis and 1 file - the report. The files shall be named in Latin with the graduate’s surname, first name and middle name, separated by an underscore - for example: Petrov_Dimitar_Stoyanov_diss, and Petrov_Dimitar_Stoyanov_report. The CD shall be labeled (in Bulgarian – for the students from the Bulgarian taught programs and in English – for those from the English taught programs) with student’s full name and faculty number, and placed in a CD single box, labeled in Bulgarian language for the students from the Bulgarian taught programs and in English - for those from the English taught programs) - size 12 cm x 12 cm - Seehere.Theses whose individual structural parts are stored in separate files shall not be accepted.

The graduates from all English taught programs shall e-mail the files with their diploma thesis and the report to the respective

Hand In Office. At the same time, they shall submit to the Library and Information Centre in Dobrich or in the Student Affairs Office in

Varna 1 hardback copy of the thesis according to their major /See above/(The Ethics form and the accompanying draft documents

(draft questionnaires, draft consent forms, etc.) are an integral part of the diploma thesis and shall be attached at the end of the hardbound copy); 1 printout of the report /see above/, and 1 CD with 2 files /Word 2003/ - 1 file - the electronic version of the diploma thesis and 1 file – the report /see above/.

After a plagiarism inspection and upon completion of the Exam Board work, the Student Affair Office shall submit a list with the positively graded diploma theses to the Library and Information Centre in Dobrich. There they shall be processed, entered into the "Diploma Theses" database and stored in a special mode. To the descriptions in this database, the full-text files shall be attached in PDF, copy and print protected by a special password visible only in the internal network of the Library and Information Center.

The hard copies of the unprotected diploma theses shall be stored in the Student Affairs Office until the graduate student submits a new diploma thesis to be defended in a later session.

The graduates from the Bulgarian taught programs shall submit their diploma theses in the Student Affairs Office. The submission shall be certified by the signatures of the graduate and the receiving employee on a special protocol.

The receiving employee shall send the diploma theses to the research leaders/supervisors and to the reviewers. The reviewers shall check the diploma theses for plagiarism. They shall inform the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs/ the Academic Director and the research leaders/supervisors concerning any plagiarism. The Student Affairs Office shall promptly inform by mail all the graduates who have not been admitted to a thesis defense.

Just before the diploma theses defense, the Academic Affairs Office shall submit the theses to the Chairman of the Exam Board. During the diploma theses defense, reviewers shall put their signatures on the title page of the hard copy of the thesis. Right after the defense, the wire-bound theses shall be returned to the graduates. The Chairperson of the Exam Board shall return the hard copies of the diploma theses to the Student Affairs Office.

Only the successfully defended diploma theses shall be submitted by a protocol to the Library and Information Center. There they shall be processed, entered into the "Diploma Theses" database and stored in a special mode. To the descriptions in this database, the fulltext files shall be attached in PDF, copy and print protected by a special password visible only in the internal network of the Library and Information Center. The hard copies of the unprotected diploma theses shall be stored in the Student Affairs Office until the graduate student submits a new diploma thesis to be defended in a later session.
