Academic Business – Terry Hall/Stacey ClarkLatta Campus / Sedgefield Campus
· Enrollment – 681 students
· Attendance – 95.85%
· Staffing change – Ms. Zullo in 3rd has taken an ESL position & Grace Litton has been hired from Jacksonville, FL and is transitioning well.
· Data dives have been done at grade level meetings to identify successful teaching strategies and evaluate growth of students in current instructional groupings.
· 4th grade has launched an Olympic themed motivation strategy to keep students highly engaged as we push through the 3rd quarter.
· Teacher assistant in 3rd grade will be pushing in to support our EC teacher.
· Zone leaders walked through 4th grade rooms. Feedback from this walk through was positive.
· Erik Turner from Sedgefield Middle brought his Academic Facilitator to Latta Campus to visit TD classrooms with the TD teacher on campus. They observed 5th grade literacy with a focus on rigorous instructional strategies and plans to observe 4th this month as well.
· OM & Robotics teams are both gearing up for competitions.
· Mathapalooza team participated in their competition last week. Took two 1st places and a 2nd place award for their work.
· Culture Night is coming up on March 15th at Latta Campus.
· At this time, state class size enrollment bill will not affect class sizes next year. / · Enrollment – 457 students
· Attendance - 92%– social worker is supporting student attendance
· STEAM Night in January was well attended
· One vacancy – a TA position for literacy and math instruction
· Restart funds update: nearly $209,000 received.
o Will fund 6 full-time tutors, 3 TA’s, and Mindfulness training at both campuses.
· Data dive conversations have targeted lowest 25th percentile performers for midyear analysis.
o K-3 and 5th grade data indicates growth in literacy on midyear assessments.
o Instructional focus is now on small group instruction and workshop resource refinement as a result of data discussions.
· Family Dance was a success, well-attended
V. Transition Update - Rebecca
a) Communication Plan
i.) Due to the need to communicate further with the community about this transition, Latta Campus will send out updates to families on Fridays after each SLT meeting for the remainder of this school year. Sedgefield will send updates home in Wednesday folders and post it on the school’s website for their campus’ families.
b) Uniform Plan and Survey – Status Update
i.) Participation rate (includes both campuses): 73%. The threshold of 75% voting in favor of uniforms was not met; therefore, Latta and Sedgefield campuses will not require students to wear uniforms next school year.
c) Update on May 25 letter to TLS with our “asks”
i.) Latta Campus SLT presented a letter to Tara Lynn Sullivan (Central Learning Community Superintendent) last May. Updates to the “asks”:
a. One name, one principal for both campuses - approved
b. 2 administrators at both campuses (Assistant Principal and Dean) – approved
c. 2 facilitators at both campuses – math and literacy
i. Literacy Facilitator position is provided by the district
ii. Math Facilitator position is managed at the school-level
d. The following positions are filled based on enrollment/allotment numbers and will be determined at the school site: School Counselors; Talent Development teachers; Special Area teachers
d.) Upcoming Dates
i.) SES Parent Coffee - March 5 from 6pm-7pm
ii.) March 22 from 6pm – 7:45pm – Site Visits at both campuses. The focus of this event is to provide a Tour of Facilities to families. Teachers from both campuses will be present.
• 6:00pm-6:30pm at Sedgefield
• 7:00pm-7:30pm at Latta Campus.
d) Action Plan: Building Student Community
i.) Strategic planning and communication for March 22nd Site Visit was discussed in order to ensure students see teachers and staff from both campuses at the facility tours
ii.) Starting in spring – Playground Meet Ups/Popsicle parties/etc. at each campus to help build community with both schools. Dates for these will be shared on March 22nd event.
iii.) Latta Campus will continue Student Council next year in order to build leadership skills among students.
iv.) This spring, guest broadcasters for school news from each campus will present fun facts about the schools involved in our transition process (Dilworth, Sedgefield, Marie G. Davis, First Ward).
v.) Incorporating lessons around growth mindset/accepting change this spring was also discussed.
Transition Action Items/Assignments· Develop and share Playground Play dates on March 22nd.
· Reach out to First Ward and Marie G. Davis for participation in guest broadcaster opportunities and principal and counselor visits
· Develop communication for families following SLT meetings.
VI. Other Business
a) Tip the Scales Update
i.) Latta Campus donation participation numbers show that we are significantly behind where were this time last year however they expect to meet their annual goal.
ii.) Corporate sponsors with dine out dates where a portion of the proceeds go to DES:
a. Feb 26th at Pikes
b. Feb 20th – Growlers, Reigning Donuts, Haberdish, Crepe Cellar
b) Mobile Pharmacy at SES – April 21st (time TBD)
i.) Sedgefield campus will host a Mobile Pharmacy in order to provide medications to families who may need access to them. Organized through NC Medicines, they bring volunteers to help set up the even in the gym. This event is free, open to the public.
