Tests
Expect 2 -3 tests each quarter. Each student is expected to complete his/her own test without the assistance of team members or a calculator. Out of respect to classmates it is important to complete tests in a timely manner if you are absent. Ultimately it is the students’ responsibility to stay informed of missed assessments.
Team/Partner Quizzes
Expect 2 – 3 team/partner quizzes each quarter. Each student will be responsible for his/her own quiz; however, students are encouraged to discuss and check answers with assigned team members or partner before turning in the assessment.
Participation
Each student will be expected to work cooperatively and effectively with his/her assigned team or partner. Important learning takes place during these discussions. There will also be times when students are asked to work independently. Individual activities are also important so that individual learning can be assessed.
Homework
Expect homework every night. Late homework is not accepted. It is the student’s responsibility to stay informed of missed work. Check the calendar and Algebra 1 folder on the bulletin board for assignments. Please check the handbook for the policy on work missed during an absence. If you need assistance on homework please check I will grade homework using a variety of methods.
Notebook
Students are expected to keep a 3-ring binder (1 ½ - 2”) with 5 tabbed dividers. The dividers should includeWARM UPS/CLASS WORK, HOMEWORK, LEARNING LOGS, RESOURCES, and TESTS/QUIZZES. Notebooks are expected to be neat and organized.
Academic Integrity
Each student is responsible for understanding the material and seeking help when he/she does not understand. Students may work together, share ideas, and use for help on homework assignments. In addition, the math department offers two math labs during lunch periods and after school tutoring sessions will be available once a week. We expect students to use these resources responsibly. If a student is academically dishonest the BVHS academic integrity policy will be enforced. (Please note: Final work submitted must reflect the understanding and processes of each individual student, and therefore, should have unique content, ways of communication, and/or organization.)
Hall passes
Each student will receive one hall pass per quarter. Use it wisely!! Passes that are not used may be turned in at the end of each quarter for 5 extra credit points. If hall passes are not used properly, the teacher has a right to refuse passes. Lost or stolen passes will not be replaced.
Homework passes
Each student will receive one homework pass per quarter. Students may use this pass in place of an assignment. Use it wisely!! Passes that are not used may be turned in at the end of each quarter for 5 extra credit points. Lost passes will not be replaced.
