The 911day.org Website
The newly developed “I Will” call to action for the 10-year Anniversary of 9/11 – part of a multi-million dollar public service campaign supporting the 9/11 Day Observance – includes the launch of a new 9/11 Day website ( that makes it easier than ever for individuals and groups to post and share pledges to perform good deeds and charitable service tributes for 9/11. The 911day.org website is operated by MyGoodDeed and developed with the assistance of Los Angeles-based M. At 911day.org, participants can:
- Post a Tribute:
- Type in a message describing what they “will” do in tribute to the 9/11 victims, survivors and families, and those who rose in service, which they can quickly post to their Twitter or Facebook pages.
- Upload photos or a short video message about their tribute. Participants will also be able to search for and view the tributes posted by others.
- Dedicate Their 9/11 “I Will” Tribute:
- For the first time, participants will be able to dedicate their good deed or charitable service tribute to a 9/11 victim by name, searchable through a new and unique “Service in Memory” tool developed collaboratively by the 9/11 Memorial and MyGoodDeed. Participants can also request that a name be provided to them, or they can choose to type in someone else, such as a survivor, relative of a 9/11 victim, member of the military or veteran, first responder, recovery worker or another person they wish to designate for their service dedication.
- Take Action:
- Search for volunteer opportunities through the 9/11 Day database, which incorporates most of the leading volunteer search tools, including VolunteerMatch, HandsOn Connect, 1800Volunteer and All For Good. Participants may also be able to sign up for many of the primary projects being organized by the 9/11 Day partners, or send inquires of interest to other groups that are sponsoring projects or offering volunteer opportunities.
- Support or promote a charitable cause of their choice selected from the Guidestar database consisting of all 501c(3) nonprofits.
Social Media: Facebook.com/911day; Twitter.com/911day; YouTube.com/911dayofservice– The use of social media is an important tool for organizers to share updates, information and encourage more participation in the 9/11 Day Observance.
Facebook.com/911day: Recently reaching 100, 000 fans and supported by applications built by New York-based MagicBullet Media, facebook.com/911day is a custom-designed, user-friendly page that will help foster tributes, collect photos and videos and enable Facebook members, along with supporting brands and charities, to participate. The goal is to inspire at least one million Tributes while empowering Facebook members participate in the 9/11 Day Observance.
Application functionality includes:
- Post a good deed or other charitable service tribute
- Dedicate a tribute to any 9/11 victim
- Upload photos and video tocorrespondwith your tribute
- Share and encourage friends to join the 9/11 Day Observance
Facebook Applications: Two new Facebook applications in mid-August include:
- I Will Tribute application – Users can download this app to make and share tributes from any mobile device. With this app, users can post tributes on the 911day fan page, but they will also appear on the fan pages of their facebook friends who also install the app.
- I Will Volunteer application – Developed by lead contributor American Express and powered by HandsOn Network, this new app is designed to connect volunteers across the country to service projects in their communities and can be accessed at facebook.com/911day.
