Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world. -- Nelson Mandela.

An Invitation To Help Save our Schools, our Students, and the Nation

The education of our children is the most important challenge in the nation today; affecting every aspect of society. Imagine how many social, economic, environmental, health, and hunger problems we could solve that are handicapping the growth of the nation, if we could just better educate our young citizens.

Although digital technology surrounds us in our daily lives, it has failed to reach our schools and students.

Today, we stand at the dawn of a new Digital Education Technology Age, which will provide solutions for many of the academic and economic problems that plague our nation’s failing education system.

The CTC Digital Education Project (DEP) has researched and developed a revolutionary new and advanced interactive, multimedia, digital education technology that makes reading, studying, and learning much easier, infinitely more efficient and effective, and just simply more interesting, engaging, and fun!

Exciting and stimulating Interactive MultimediaDigital Schoolbooks (IMDS) are the simple and easy solution to capturing and holding the attention of our modern techno-savvy students, who are currently bored and unengaged with the lack of assistive computer technologies in their classrooms.

The National Digital Schoolbook Library Program (NDSLP) isthe most comprehensive and continuously updated centralized depository of both FREE and Commercially Published Digital Schoolbooks, Study Aids, and Teaching Materials. This easily accessible digital library, containing thousands of “Free Copyright Law” digital schoolbooks and digital education materials, which with the help of your donations to Digital Education Project, are currently being converted to the new IMDS format. At the same time, the DEP is designing and producing many original FREE Interactive, Multimedia Digital Textbooks, Chapter Modules, Workbooks, Readers, Reference Materials, Teaching Aids, Assistive Technologies for the National Digital Schoolbook Library Program.

Each FREE Digital Schoolbook produced for the NDSLP will save our states’ school systems billions of dollars in present and future education spending. These enormous savings will allow each state to purchase many additional commercially published digital books, through the NDSLP, at greatly reduced costs over traditional paper textbooks; and, also provide Free Personal Computers to all students in need.

All of our nation’s schools, teachers, students, and parents will now have the opportunity to greatly enhance academic experience and future potential by taking full advantage of the full spectrum of amazing and stimulating 21st Century Assistive Digital Education Technologies through the National Digital Schoolbook Library Program.

"A host of developed nations are already out-educating us.

The U.S. economy stands to lose tens of trillions of dollars, if we don't stop napping at the wheel."

–United States Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan.

The Problem—Failing Schools, Failing Students, Failing Nation

Today’s children grow up, almost from birth, with computers, iPads, Smart Phones, and all sorts of assistive digital devices and educational software, giving them a significant intellectual advantage over students in other countries.

Research has shown our children enter grade school as the smartest students on the planet. They think faster, multi-tasks every day, and are more prepared to learn than any other generation in the history of mankind. Then, why are our students failing and dropping out of school?

When our children first arrive at school, they are told to leave all their wonderful assistive digital devices outside, and are asked to read, study, and learn with the same archaic traditional paper books and materials we have used for the past 450* years.

Simply stated, today’s techno-savvy students are bored, unengaged, unchallenged, and frustrated with the lack of modern digital computer technology in their classrooms.

The system has failed, because we have not met our obligations to supply the best 21st Century educational technologies available to our modern techno-savvy students.

The results: Over 7,000 students drop out of our high schools each day, and the numbers are increasing. At the same time, student achievement is decreasing significantly each year.

Globally, the education of our children is already dangerously below average; ranking 14th in reading, 17th in science, and 25th in math. By the 8th grade 60% of students lose interest in Math and Science.

By the 12th grade many of those, who do graduate, rank near the bottom of the global education scale. Almost 50% of the students admitted to colleges are woefully unprepared, and fail to graduate.

The societal cost for each high school dropout is approximately $292,000, due to reduced wages and taxes, welfare and high health-care costs, and, as is all too often the case, the costs of incarceration.

Dropouts are also 8 times more likely to wind up in jail than non-dropouts.

The US spends more money on incarceration of a single individual than it does on educating that individual. It costs approximately $47,000 per year to incarcerate someone — more than the cost of sending that person to Harvard ($43,000).

It is estimated that by the year 2020 there will be 123 million high-paying, high-skill jobs in the United States, but only 50 million Americans will be qualified to fill these positions.

The cost of educating our students has risen steadily over the years with little or no improvement in our education system. Schoolbook costs alone have risen 812% since 1988.

“Our children are the future. The students we help save today are tomorrow’s citizens, who will find

a cure for cancer and other diseases, solve many of our economic, environmental, and social problems,

and make our world a better place to live.” –George Hay, founder DEP: NDSLP, Charleston, SC. 2007

NATIONAL DIGITAL SCHOOLBOOK LIBRARY PROGRAM

TheNATIONAL DIGITAL SCHOOLBOOK LIBRARY PROGRAM (NDSLP)is a comprehensive solution to the critical academic and economic problems that are failing our schools, our students, and the nation; and will save billions of dollars in present and future federal and state education funding.

The NDSLP provides our nation’s public and private schools, teachers, librarians, students, parents, and all citizens the opportunity to take full advantage of these many new and amazing assistive digital education technologies, as it centralizes all of these technologies in a single location with the following library programs:

FREE Digital Education Technologies Library Program—

The NDSLP is a 24 hour, direct access, comprehensive and continually updated Digital Library Portal, containing all currently available FREE interactive, multimedia, digital textbooks, readers, workbooks, study modules (the innovative “single chapter textbooks” of the Digital Age), reference materials, teaching materials, and teaching aids.

Commercially Produced Digital Education Library Section—

The Library also contains a complete listing of all commercially available Digital Schoolbooks and educational materials published through the nation’s COMMERCIAL PUBLISHING HOUSES. These commercially published schoolbooks can now be acquired directly through the NDSLP, at a greatly reduced cost over traditional paper schoolbooks,

Millions of dollars go into the research and creation of the many textbooks and study materials commercially produced by the major US publishing companies and the many smaller schoolbook publishers each year. In fact, it takes many publishing companies to supply the diverse volume of materials needed to support our school’s variety of academic disciplines. Not all of these textbooks can be made available free to our schools.

The great advantage of the National Digital Schoolbook Library Program is that the large amounts of money, saved through its free digital schoolbook program, will allow each state to purchase many more digital books from commercial publishers, and still realize enormous savings on their overall school budgets.

Therefore, commercial publishers will be encouraged to produce more educational materials in the digital format at a greatly reduced cost over paper textbooks with the same or better margins of profit for their products. There is very little overhead and great environmental savings in the digital technology business. (No trees, paper, printing, binding, or reprint costs; and no storage or transportation costs—no oil!) Imagine what we just saved; and, the savings flow directly down to our states’ education systems! Everybody wins!

National Student Archives Program—

This revolutionary new program provides students with the opportunity to deposit and immortalize all types of

their academic works produced throughout their educational career. (Papers, Art, Music, Poetry, Science Projects, Writings, Commentary, Literary Works, Blogs, Notes, Logs, Critical Analysis, Audio, Video, etc.) These materials will be retained in this perpetual library archive depository, and can be retrieved at any time for review, research, or general interest by any interested party. From this day forward the NSA will inspire and elevate all students to always give their very best effort to all of their academic work; for it will forever be immortalized and available as part of the human learning experience from the next generation of great minds.
