Job Summary

Responsible to:Director of Development

Salary:£23,000 pa

Hours:40 average per week, Monday to Friday, 10am–6pm.
Occasional evening and weekend work will be required. Overtime is not paid.

Holiday:25 days per annum plus Bank Holidays.

Notice period:Three months, after a probationary period of three months.

Key objectives:The Development Officer will be responsible for raising funds from individuals, corporate supporters and trusts/foundations, working with the Director of Development and the Development Committee to grow the Rose’s fundraising income. S/he willco-ordinate the department’s cultivationactivities for philanthropic donors, corporate sponsors and related stakeholders, and contribute to donor and sponsor stewardship, with a commitment to providing outstanding customer service.

This role offers an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to develop her/his fundraising skills in the largest producing theatre in South West London.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managethe Rose Circle and Rose Friends Loyalty Card schemes, including planning an annual calendar of activities, developing and delivering membership benefits, growing membership and ensuring member retention. The main focus of the roleholder will be on growing the Rose Circle scheme.
  • Cultivate relationships with donors and prospects, encouraging giving and facilitating their closer involvement with the Rose, working with colleagues across the Theatre.
  • Plan and execute donor and sponsor cultivation and stewardship events, at the Rose and elsewhere, as required.
  • Undertake administrative duties, including overseeing monthly renewals, tracking Direct Debit payments, producing regular newsletters and processing memberships and ticket/event bookings, working with the Development Assistant.
  • Manage and administer prospect and donor information using Spectrix (box office system) and Excel.
  • Support the expansion of fundraising and sponsorship activities through undertaking regular database analysis and prospect research, managing and devising direct mail campaigns, arranging meetings with current/prospective supporters and supporting other initiatives.
  • Ensure that all credits for supporters in programmes are up-to-date and oversee stewardship activities including the printing of the supporters’ board on a twice yearly basis.
  • Support the Director of Development with financial management regarding Development income/expenditure, liaising with the Finance Department as required.
  • Provide high-level administrative support to the Director of Development, Chief Executive and Chair of the Development Committee as required, including working to support relationships with the Rose’s most generous donors/sponsors.
  • Attend occasional staff meetings, training sessions and other events, which may take place outside of normal working hours.
  • Undertake any other duties as required by the Director of Development/Chief Executive.
  • Carry out all duties and responsibilities with regard to the Rose’s policies and procedures.

Person Specification

The Rose comprises a team of highly skilled and committed people. All staff members are expected to contribute as appropriate to the company’s success and engage in the life of the company.

Essential:

  • At least one year’s experience of working within fundraising and/or with membership schemes, or in a related area such as relationship marketing
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior donors, volunteers and opinion formers
  • Good administrative and organisational skills, with the ability to work to a high degree of accuracy
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Good time management skills and abilityto prioritise work within a busy and varied environment
  • Experience of database management, preferably usinga fundraising CRM or box office management system
  • A good team player with a flexible and enthusiastic approach to work
  • Available to attend evening and weekend events as required

Desirable:

  • An interest in the arts
  • Experience of working in a performing arts environment
  • Experience of planning and delivering events
