We are currently inviting applications for a Development Microbiologist to join the technical team to be based at the Rotherham site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of Microbiological challenge test trial project work from quotation to reporting; including communication with clients.
  • Manage all aspects of specialist microbiological project work including product or process validation/ verification trials from quotation to reporting including communication with clients.
  • Attend client meetings as required to discuss non-routine specialist project work or results as required.
  • Perform microbiological investigative trial project work on specific food matrices.
  • Manage and process the non routine side of the analytical testing.
  • Performance of group EQA result failure/ trend investigations as directed.
  • Perform technical review of EQA failure investigations as required; provide technical assistance & feedback upon investigations as required.
  • Assist the technical team in the planning of new methods and new business opportunities.
  • To assist the technical team with the proactive review of the industry for new business opportunities
  • Assist the technical team in dealing with client queries & investigation of client issues as required.
  • Assist with the review of methods, support methods, documents & records as directed.
  • Perform the development and validation work for new methods as directed
  • Assist with the generation of new method records & documentation including; SOP’s/ methods/ support methods, Nautilus test workflow design & testing, laboratory records, risk assessments, training records & training aids as directed.
  • Assist with the set up of new methods; including staff training on site as required.
  • Perform staff training (including training tutorials & workshops) on site in specific lab techniques as required.
  • Performance of alternative product commissioning validation work as well as the ongoing re-evaluation of existing products.
  • Manage quality reporting to comply with business quality requirements.
  • Monitor quality performance and take appropriate steps to meet/ improve set target criteria.
  • Organise and perform non-routine analytical work, solve technical problems.
  • Perform audits/technical assessments of specific lab techniques or methods as required.

Qualifications & Experience:

Applicants must have appropriate laboratory and organisational skills together with a good working knowledge of food microbiology methods & techniques. An understanding of Commission Regulation (EC) No 2073/2005 on microbiological criteria for foodstuffs is desirable. A basic knowledge of molecular techniques, development and validation procedures are desirable. Candidates will ideally be qualified to at least degree level or equivalent. Technical knowledge of relevant methods is essential.

The successful applicant must be computer literate with experience of the windows office suite and laboratory information systems (LIMS). Good interpersonal, communication and influencing skills are essential.

An ability to work to tight deadlines whilst being quality driven and customer focused is a necessity.

Candidates must have a valid UK driving license as the role may involve travel to other sites within the UK.
