2. JOB TITLE: FUNDRAISER – GRANTS AND CONTRACTS

3. RESPONSIBLE TO: COMMUNICATIONS AND DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

4. JOB PURPOSE: Securing grants and contracts from trusts, statutory and other private bodies - in support of Romsey Mill’s work of creating opportunities with children, young people and families to overcome disadvantage, promote inclusion and develop personal, social and spiritual wellbeing.

5. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

The main responsibility of this job is to optimise income from grants and contracts (currently at c.£700k) for Romsey Mill.

5.1  To research potential funding available from grants and contracts.

5.2  To apply for funding from grants and contracts from trusts, statutory and other funders.

5.3  To develop excellent professional relationships with key existing and prospective funders.

5.4  To work with the rest of the staff team to ensure that funded projects are monitored as necessary, and that quality reports are provided to funders as required.

5.5  To manage overall grants and contracts using donor database.

5.6  Where appropriate, to support the Fundraising and Communications Team with other ways of raising profile and income.

In addition, there is responsibility across all of the above main responsibilities:

·  To evaluate and report upon grants and contracts fundraising to the line manager.

·  To keep up to date with best practice in fundraising and comply with relevant legislation and regulation. To work within the organisation’s policies and procedures, and to ensure that good practice is observed.

·  To positively promote the work and activities of Romsey Mill at all times to ensure that it is acknowledged as a charity deserving of financial support.

In addition to the duties set out in this job description the worker may, from time to time, be required to undertake additional or other duties as necessary within his or her capabilities and status to meet the needs of Romsey Mill.

6. SCALE AND IMPACT

The post-holder will have lead responsibility, with support from the Communications and Development Manager, for raising funds from grants and contracts for Romsey Mill. (Other staff will be responsible for raising unrestricted voluntary funds from individuals, companies, churches, community groups and events; and for generating funds through trading, towards the current overall income target of £950k per annum).

He/she will share responsibility for facilities, rooms and equipment linked to our communications and development function. The worker will be responsible for any volunteers working within his/her own area.

7. DISCRETION TO ACT

The post-holder will have authority to act within the parameters set by their line manager and the CEO. The post-holder will be directly supported and line managed by the Communications and Development Manager.

8. ENVIRONMENT

The post-holder will be based at Romsey Mill’s main centre on Hemingford Road. The facilities consist of various offices, meeting/training rooms, an arts/media suite, coffee bar, a large ‘activities’ hall and other amenities. (Romsey Mill also undertakes programmes off-site, including residential work). The post-holder will also be required to meet potential donors and attend events at other locations in Cambridge and the surrounding area.

9. RELATIONSHIPS

Internal - The post-holder will work most closely with other members of the Fundraising and Communications Team, with the CEO and with Programme Managers and Coordinators in putting together applications and reporting back to funders. The post-holder will also work with Romsey Mill staff across delivery, admin & finance and management teams. S/he will be expected to meet with young people and other service participants in order to fully understand the charity’s mission and activities and to encourage young people’s participation in the wider work of Romsey Mill. The post-holder will report to the Communications and Development Manager. The worker may also, occasionally, be required to meet with the board of Trustees of Romsey Mill.

External - The post-holder will work with existing and potential funders (trusts, statutory and other funders). The worker will also have contact with other external local and national bodies including voluntary and statutory agencies and the media.


SECTION B: PERSON SPECIFICATION

1. QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

·  Very good general education including level 2 NQF (GCSE equivalent) or above in English and Maths

·  A degree or equivalent professional qualification (Level 6 NQF) in a relevant field

Desirable

·  Fundraising qualifications

2. EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

·  At least two years’ experience in a role similar to this one

·  Experience of writing successful funding applications to grant-making trusts and/or statutory funders

·  Excellent communication skills, particularly written

·  Highly organised and able to plan and prioritise workload within a context of multiple demands

·  Ability to make persuasive arguments concisely

·  Confidence in asking for financial support

·  Ability to use Microsoft Office suite confidently, and general computer competency

·  Excellent literacy and numeracy skills

·  Understanding of budgets and costs

Desirable

·  Experience of monitoring progress and reporting back to funders

·  Understanding of the needs related to work with children, young people and families

·  Understanding of commissioning/tendering processes

·  Experience of researching potential sources of funding

·  Experience of operating databases

·  Member of the Institute of Fundraising

·  Some prior knowledge and understanding of Romsey Mill

SECTION C: TERMS AND CONDITIONS

1. SALARY: £20,198 - £26,276 FTE

2. HOURS OF WORK

The basic working week will be between 30 and 37.5 hours Monday to Friday, as mutually agreed, but there must be recognition of the need for flexibility. Unsocial hours may need to be worked on occasion. Overtime is not normally paid, but time off in lieu may be given as agreed with your line manager.

3. PAID LEAVE ENTITLEMENT

25 days pro rata annual paid holiday plus public holidays. Full details as given in contract of employment.

4. SICK PAY PROVISION

Romsey Mill operates a discretionary Sick Pay scheme for employees. Please refer to contract of employment for further details.

5. PENSION ENTITLEMENT

Romsey Mill operates a Group Pension scheme. Please refer to contract of employment for further details.

6. PERIOD OF NOTICE OFFERED AND REQUIRED

You are required to give two months’ notice following probationary period. Romsey Mill is required to give a period of two months’ notice to the employee. Please refer to contract of employment for further details.

7. CONDITIONS OF APPOINTMENT

The employment will be subject to satisfactory references. This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 and (Exceptions) (Amendment) Order 1986.

8. IN SERVICE TRAINING

The person appointed will be expected to participate in In-service Training Modules and other learning opportunities as deemed appropriate by the Communications and Development Manager, for which budgetary provision will be made.

9. MISCELLANEOUS

The Communications and Development Manager will be responsible for carrying out regular work reviews with the post holder. From time to time there may be a requirement to travel on Romsey Mill business outside the immediate locality and occasional overnight visits, for which expenses will be covered.
