DETACHMENT OF GEORGIA
SONS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION
DEREK ABRON RONNIE GRIST
COMMANDER ADJUTANT
The Preamble to the National Constitution of the Sons of The American Legion ends with “to adopt in letter and spirit all of the great principles for which The American Legion stands: and to assist in carrying on for God and Country”. In an effort to promote the programs of The American Legion the Detachment of Georgia, Sons of The American Legion will be promoting a new program this year called:
Touchdowns for Veterans
Commander/ President’s Project
All proceeds from this fund raising program will be donated to The American Legion, Department of Georgia’s joint Commander/President’s Project: Veterans Affairs
How Program Works:
People will pledge a monetary amount (e.g. 50cents, $1.00, $2.00 or more for every touchdown scored by the Atlanta Falcons during the 2017 NFL regular season which starts on Sunday, September 10, 2017 and ends on Sunday, December 31, 2017. There are 16 regular season games. Pledgers can pay weekly, quarterly or a lump sum at the end of the regular season. How you collect the pledges is up to the individual Squadron. We encourage all Legion, Auxiliary and Rider members to also participate as pledgers.
Last year the Atlanta Falcons scored a total of 57 touchdowns. You may want to create a spreadsheet listing all pledgers which will help you track all pledges due from week to week and help in keeping track of any monies paid during the course of the season.
At the end of season each Squadron will submit all monies raised to The Detachment of Georgia.. This will secure that each Squadron that participates is credited by The Detachment and the Department for their donation. This can also then be reported on your Squadron Consolidated Report for next year. After all donations are received the Post family who raises the most amount of money for the Commander’s Project, through this fundraiser, will receive an award at the 2018 Detachment Convention.
We hope many of you will take part in this fundraiser so we can show support to The American Legion and support to the young men and women who will benefit from this program.
Please have a copy of ALL Pledge sheets to Department BEFORE September 6, 2017.
Yours in Comradeship,
Ronnie Grist
