Instructions
The supplied spreadsheet for this activity describes the results of a ten-question quiz given at the end of an instructional unit, with each question graded either correct (one point) or incorrect (zero points). 75% is the minimum passing score.
Review the supplied data sheet before attempting to answer the questions for this assignment. As you review, identify the strengths and weaknesses of both students and individual test items. Look at overall class performance. Identify any outliers that may exist. After reviewing the data, please answer the following questions in the spaces provided.
QUESTION / YOUR ANSWER/RESPONSE1. What is the overall class average? / 65.5 %
2. Based on these scores, how would you describe the class’ performance on this unit? / I believe that question #4 should not be counted toward the class average; this question contributed to the low class average. In addition, question #8 had a low score (40%), which also contributed to a low class performance. In general, two questions dropped the class average to below passing.
3. Who are the top performing students? / According to the passing criteria established (75%), Ronnette, David, Margaret, Jacob, and Wanda are top performing students
4. Which students failed, or nearly failed, the quiz? / All of the students failed with the exception of Ronnette, David, Margaret, Jacob, and Wanda.
5. What quiz items did students master most? / The Q7-07 quiz item was mastered the most with 100% of the students mastering it.
6. What quiz items did students master least? / The Q4-04 quiz item was mastered the least because all of the students missed this question item.
7. Is there any item(s) that appears to be suspicious in terms of student scores? Which? WHY? / The Q4-04 ad Q7-07 test items seem to arouse suspicion. All of the students failed Q4-04 and all of the students passed Q7-07.
8. Based on your answers above, what conclusions can you draw about individual and class performance on this quiz? / According to the established criteria of 75%, the following questions need to be remediated or have the skill retaught: 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8.
9. Based on your conclusions, what are the THREE most important recommendations you can make to adjust your instructional practice for this topic? / 1. The questions that have a class percentage close to 75% need to have students remediated in small groups.
2. The questions that have a class percentage that is substantially lower than 75% need to have the skill retuaght to the entire class.
3. The teacher needs to take questions 4 and 7 off the assessment due suspicious student scores.
