This course:

  • addressesstandard 1.2.4 of element 1 of the NSW Institute of Teachers professional teaching standards. This standard refers to the application of current knowledge and skills in the use of ICT in the classroom. The course specifically focuses on the use of email for enhanced communication and as a tool for quality teaching and learning
  • is two and a half hours in length and counts toward professional development requirements for the NSW Institute of Teachers as an Institute registered course. “New Scheme” teachers who are accredited at professional competencemay participate in this session as part of the mandatory 50 hours professional development as Institute registered professional development. In addition the course is open to other interested teachers. Written acknowledgement of successful completion of the course will be provided to all participants. Successful completion will require demonstration of successful hands on use of email facilities and application of email to classroom pedagogy.
  • has been designed for staff with basic or greater ICT experience. Workshops will consist of small groups of no more than10 participants.
  • content will include:
  • using the internet to find the portal
  • logging on with DET username and password
  • a tour of the portals, highlighting particularly useful links
  • introductory training in email – how to write and send email, how to find DET staff addresses, how to open and respond to email messages, how to attach a document, how to open an attached document, how to create a personalised signature, how to create a distribution list, how to save and store emails effectively, how to use the calendar
  • using email as a teaching and learning tool
  • is free. Relief costs, where applicable, will need to be covered by the school.
