MEDIA RELEASE 5 MAY 2015

DESIGN AN EQUAL WORLD FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITY

One of Australia’s largest disability organisations Yooralla and leading streetwear retailer Dangerfield are challenging graphic designers from across the world to redefine the image of disability through the YoorallaTEE t-shirt design competition.

The five finalists in this competition will have their designs printed and sold on t-shirts across Dangerfield stores and online, plus win a share in cash and prizes.

YoorallaTEE’s 2015 theme of equality challenges designers to imagine an equal world for people living with disability.

YoorallaTEE is a team effort run in partnership by Yooralla, Dangerfield and the Father Bob Maguire Foundation. Last year’s competition received close to 1500 entries from around the world.

Entries are now open through Yooralla’s website until the 29 May 2015.

Yooralla Client Rights and Empowerment Practitioner Tully Zygier encourages all designers to get involved in changing the perception of disability.

“This year’s theme of ‘equality’ asks artists and designers to imagine an equal world for people with disability.

This competition is a chance to change the perception of disability by challenging traditional ideas and celebrating abilities.

“All you have to do is think about the theme ‘equality’, create a t-shirt design and enter the competition,” Ms Zygier said.

“Yooralla promotes equality for people with disability. The YoorallaTEE competition extends the vision of equality into the community and encourages society to think about what an equal world for people with disabilities would be like,” Ms Zygier said.

100% of the proceeds from the sale of YoorallaTEE t-shirts are donated to disability organisation Yooralla and the Father Bob Maguire Foundation.

“YoorallaTEE is a great opportunity to raise awareness and funds for disability through creative design,” Ms Zygier said.
