For Pass (P3 & 4)
You have been commissioned to produce and perform using music technology equipment a piece of music for a chosen art form.
You will perform your planned performance working with a chosen art form (still image or short film) to an audience and on a date, arranged by your teacher.
You will demonstrate the use of music technology in your planned performance of music with minor errors that do not detract from the overall effect. (Length of Individual performances should be between 4 – 7 minutes).
Prior to your performance, you should hand-in a written plan of your performance that outlines:
  • Equipment to be used: e.g. Computer, software (Logic, Traktor Scratch Pro II, Ableton, Main Stage), sampler, turntables, controllers, mixers, traditional instruments, voice, other devices.
  • Methods to be used: e.g. Hardware control over software, computer sequencing, use of backing tracks, sample playback, live sampling, live looping, integration of music technology with traditional instruments and voice, audio effects, DJ mixing, backing track.
  • Style/Genre: e.g. Electro-Acoustic, Hip Hop, Dance, Electronica, Experimental.
  • Description of the art form (still image or short film) to be used.
  • Approximate length of performance.
You may have technical assistance or artistic direction from your teacher and make some mistakes in your performance that may need input from your teacher to solve.
For Merit (M3 & 4)
Complete everything for a pass plus:
  • You should demonstrate the ability to setup, and use the equipment without significant tutor input.
  • You should demonstrate the use of music technology competently showing a growing confidence in your performance with the need of occasional assistance with any technical issues.

For Distinction (D3 & 4)
Complete everything for a pass & merit plus:
  • You should show manipulation of the technology used during the performance using a range of at least 3 control techniques.
  • The performance should be impressive and make excellent use of the available technology.
  • You should use music technology in the performance demonstrating artistic flair.
  • You should produce a performance using music technology to a near professional standard demonstrating artistic interpretation of a related art form.
  • The music should work with and compliment the art form creating a well-rounded integrated product.
  • Produce a written report, which explains the link between the music and the art form.

CRITERIA:
P3 Use music technology in the live performance of music with minor errors that do not detract from the overall effect.
P4 Produce a performance using music technology working with a chosen art form with assistance. / M3 Use music technology competently in the live performance of music.
M4 Produce a performance using music technology working with a chosen art form with only occasional assistance. / D3 Use music technology in the live performance of music demonstrating artistic flair.
D4 Produce a performance using music technology to a near professional standard demonstrating artistic interpretation of a related art form.

Complete assignment will include submissions of:

  1. A written plan of performance.
  2. A written report explaining the link between the music and art form.
  3. A performance.
